Hi guys, first post. I've had Sky for years and browse this forum lots when I have issues. Thought it was about time I joined up. I'm 37, married with 3 kids and live in sunny Scotland.

      Hi Sky Users!
I don’t like being beaten, but you’ve got to draw the line somewhere.
So I’ve joined up to get help with getting wifi going with Windows 8.
It works with hotspots, not at home, now you see it, now you don’t
      Lol Ken

      Re: Say Hello

Hi All, I joined the forum so I could say a big thank you to the members for helping me get rid of the awful Sky SR101 by allowing me to obtain my Sky username and password, the SR101 was playing havoc with the internet connections on my none Sky satellite receivers for 6 months.

I am now using a very old Netgear DG834NP, although it is a 54G router it is still more stable than the SR101, I think I am going to have an ongoing problem with the lease expiring because I had to connect with a cable this morning before I could use my wireless connection.

Anyway thank you everyone for your help.

      kind regards

      James.

You may wish to investigate a more modern router that supports WiFi n & ac. Whilst the DG834NP is reliable now, many are finding that their DG834GT routers are failing and yours will not be far away.

Keep your Sky Hub to hand for two reasons:

      1. The log in details are unique to the router and if someone else were to use it, either you or they would not be able to use the Internet
      2. Should you own router die, you can still use the Sky Hub SR101

Hi Scubbie and thanks, I did realise I needed to keep the router in case the Netgear went down.

I do agree that the Netgear is getting long in the tooth and needs replacing, given that I won't be getting super fast/fibre broadband in the near future is there any router you can recommend that is reported to provide a stable connection rather than speed.

      Thanks,
      James.

Please feel free to look around the forum for suitable advice.

There are a range of opinions and there are a variety of different options to suit each budget.
