Yes you need an active phoneline as this is part of the T&Cs that you must have your Sky box connected to it for the first 12 months.

      Re: Say Hello

Hi, new to this forum and thought I would introduce myself. Currently living in Cheshire, with my family including a 5 year old son, who day by day is coming up with some new phrases as if He's the Parent! Wonder what will happen to his generation??

I used to work for Sky many a moon ago, at the Brentford location (Sky History building if I remember correctly) and loved the job. Used to work for the Sky One Channel and Sky Premier. I will never forget the Xmas Party at some suave place in London where M-People were the band for the night. Got to go to some premiers as well!

Now a Finance Director, although did work for the banks past 6 years. Now back in Cheshire, looking for a new lease of life

      Re: Say Hello

Hello all. Another newbie here, although I have been keeping tabs on this forum for quite a while without posting.
Even though I have been a sky subscriber for nearly 20 years, I recently cancelled to go to Virgin, three weeks ago in fact. Virgin have messed me about with connection dates, should have been connected Friday and it's now been changed (for the third time) to the 15th of October. I now want to reconnect to sky because, if I'm having this much trouble with virgin before connection, what is it going to be like when I do get connected? What i want to know is, how do I stand, am I a new customer or will I be classed as an existing customer? I also want to upgrade to multiroom subscription this time too if I can get a reasonable deal.

      Re: Say Hello

If you return using the same name on the account as previously, then you would have to have left Sky for at least one year to be treated as a new customer.

There are several instances of people cancelling Sky and allowing their partner to sign up to a new account to make use of any promotion.

Unfortunately if you benefited from Sky's price freeze from 1st September, I suspect that you will have lost this should you return, no matter which method you choose.

Whatever you choose though, I hope things go smoothly for you.

      Re: Say Hello

      * HI! *

A quick greeting from Ireland - the land that Sky seems to have forgotten when it comes to features and broadband.

Not that I'm bitter at all.. (fume)

Thanks to you guys I will now upgrade my box..something I've been wanting to do for a while but wasn't aware was doable..(well tbh I hadn't been bothered enough to google it..)..But now - try and stop me :-)

Next stop must be to get some sort of networking capability in there... the RJ45 is there like.

Anyways ... great to be here..

      Re: Say Hello

      Welcome to the forum.

You'll forgive I trust as most of the discussions seem to be regarding the UK issues, but Eire is not forgotten.

I am not familiar with the BB arrangement in Eire, but I was surprised when I found out some time back that Sky doesn't have a BB presence in Eire.

As for making use of the LAN port, currently it is only useful when you are on Sky's LLU equipment. There are plans to add extra features, but no one knows much more at present.
