      Let's close this subject.

It's perfectly clear to see that we are never going to reach a point where all people are happy, no matter what the government does. Some would like all internet traffic to be free and un-monitered others would like far more than is being proposed; it will be what it will be and we will all just have to live with it.... or emigrate. On that note can I say there is a small island in the south pacific which is delightful, however, there is no internet, no TV and only two satellite phones, the fish, however, when cooked over an open fire in the beach, is wonderful.

Do those fish have chips inside to track their progress?
Got a link of its location for viewing on Google Maps?

Satellite phones, just take your tablet or smartphone, with a little device and cost.

Smart phones and tablets are banned. The Sat phones are only used to communicate with the main island for transport, food ( you might get bored with the fish ) and sundries, and emergencies.

In essence, the outside world ceases to exist. Have a look at Fafa island Resort.

Looks great for a holiday but I'm not sure that I would like to live there. An interview with a member of staff could be quite illuminating.

Re: ... and now Sky (amongst others)

Remote islands definitely have an attraction the strongest being to displaced inhabitants rather than outsiders. Take Tristan Da Cunha whose inhabitants successfully campaigned to return after being evacuated to the UK following a volcanic eruption or Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands which were evacuated so that an American Airforce base could be established there.

I had the privilege of spending a few days with Archie and Agnes Short who were the last residents of what became the uninhabited Bleaker Island in the South Atlantic. Although not born on the island some of their children were and all raised there. In failing health they eventually and reluctantly had to move to Port Stanley. During their time on the Island they had a comfortable home with running water and electricity for a few hours each day from their own generator. No TV of telephone though they did have short wave radio for entertainment and communication with the outside world. There were visits from MV Darwin bringing essential supplies approximately once a month and a Beaver seaplane could call at short notice if there was an emergency. It wouldn't have been my idea of paradise but it was where they functioned best. Agnes didn't live to see the Falklands war but Archie did. Following the war his family thought it best for him to move to Nottingham but he couldn't adjust to the pace of life there and after a few months returned to spend the rest of his days in Port Stanley. After being abandoned for over thirty years the Island now provides a summer tourist destination.

Welcome to Bleaker Island : : Falkland Islands

Although for the first 24 hours or so it can be a bit of a shock to have no WiFi, no TV, nothing except books and possibly SWMBO, you're right, it soon becomes the best place on earth to be.

Have to be the second at least, what on earth would you do all day. But I'm afraid too it would have to be ebooks on my iPad for me and access to the itunes and amazon ebook stores, not those paper things.

Just sounds awful to me and sounds like that old prog desert island discs, not that I've ever listened to it myself.
Hopefully they have a motorboat, so I can just jump in and get back to my wonderful real life.

You can take your tablet to read books and listen to music, even watch a movie if you must - but do it quietly; I meant banned in the context of WWW, facebook etc.
