This winter will not be normal

El Niņo is set to outgrow 1997 event as forecasters warn it is now too big to fail | Daily Mail Online
'This winter will not be normal': Forecasters say El Niņo is set to outgrow 1997 event as they warn phenomenon is now too big to fail

      • 2015 is as big or bigger in heat content than 1997
      • South of North America, particularly southern California, likely to see cooler and wetter than normal winter, raising hopes drought could ease
      • Northern tier of the US could be warmer and drier

El Niņo is strengthening and is now 'too big to fail', forecasters have warned.

The latest analyses from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and from NASA confirm that sea surface heights and temperatures, as well as wind patterns, show surface waters cooling off in the Western Pacific and warming significantly in the tropical Eastern Pacific.

'Whether El Niņo gets slightly stronger or a little weaker is not statistically significant now - This baby is too big to fail,' said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

October sea level height anomalies show that 2015 is as big or bigger in heat content than 1997.

Well, SWMBO said this morning it was time for the heavy duvet, my knee is starting to ache and the squirrel is already burying his nuts in the flowerbed.

Time to break out the long Johns, if I had any!

A month ago I was wearing shorts and getting a sun tan. I suppose that I could dig out my 60 denier tights.

I was doing that 10 days ago, I was on Santorini though.

Sunbathing that is, not wearing tights!

There are plenty of men out there who do wear tights, so it wouldn't worry me if you did.

However I know where I'd rather be...

Most of the British army do when on exercise in the colder months.

I used to wear them when I was in the Royal Engineers, but it's bloody difficult trying to keep your seams straight!
