Re: External Power Bank Battery Charger Case

I have just read through all the information you gave me and allthough it's all very interesting and far to technical for me it does not tell me if these devices are safe to use, or will I damage my phone. All the reviews seem to give it a good write up or should I belive the idiot at my workplace who said it damaged his phone.
I even have a member of my family who has no problem at all with it

he said it damaged his phone and made the original battery last for 3 hours.
My son had never used a battery charger and his iPhone now gives him just over 3 hours battery life. It now practically lives plugged into the charger on his car. He has always used iPhones right back to when they were introduced but I think this will be his last one.

So don't take any notice of what your office friend says, I have been using a power bank with my Nexus 7 for years and have had no problem.

Apparently heat is what kills most batteries. This is an interesting article about it:

With respect isitme it sounds as your son has had the same problem and you have not that it makes it a 50 50 gamble on this unit. And made take the thing back. It's not worth chancing it

I think what Isitme is saying is that his son's phone has ended up with a 3hr battery life despite having never used one of those chargers.

That's correct. I probably worded it wrong in saying he has never used a charger, obviously he has, but not a battery type charger. Whether you accept them or not is up to you, but they are very useful if you travel and don't have access to a plug in charger.

Re: External Power Bank Battery Charger Case

I bought a power bank several years ago. I also got one for a friend. Sadly the power banks died but the batteries of the phones never had an issue.

I've since purchased a larger one which holds a larger charge and is good for charging both my phone and tablet. This one is far more reliable and once more I've no issues with the battery life.

Sure the batteries drain with usage, but that is the downside of smart phones and tablets.

Sadly it looks like you can't get the one I did, but a newer version is available.

One important point in the instructions of the new power bank was not to both charge the power bank and use it to charge something else at the same time. This might explain why the smaller power banks failed.

Re: External Power Bank Battery Charger Case

The better battery chargers are fitted with a Power technology that charges the device at its fastest speed and detects when it is fully charged and switches off. No doubt some of the cheaper models keep trying to pump though power to a fully charged device, causing overheating of the charger and possibly the device.
