      Re: She's back...

Well having had a busy couple of weeks upgrading my laptop and moving everything across, I've also been able to complete the third video.

Not everything went as well as you'd like whilst on holiday with the days shown in this short video. The weather in the Bay of Biscay was rough. As someone who does get seasick I took precautions (aka Stugeron) which helped me stay well. Sadly not everyone else was so fortunate. Whilst I've shown the waves breaking down the side of the ship, its easy to forget the size of her.

As for Vigo... well there was an unwanted crowd of people trying to sell brollies as we came ashore. I'll let you judge the rest.

Very pro-like if you ask me.
      Those map sequences are excellent.

      Re: She's back...

I'll admit to a little cheating with the map sequences. I used screen capture software whilst visiting the PO Cruises site. As I was concerned about copyright issues I did write to them to ask for consent, which was provided.

Whilst working on the project (I've been working on it for a good year now) I did find a few things that I wanted to do in a similar way to the contents of the library that is supplied with the software I'm using. This meant that I had to break down their samples and redo them using my own work. The opening sequences are an example of this.

      Re: She's back...

I've just uploaded the next video in the series.

      This time it's Lisbon.

The weather was a lot better and we were able to take a lot of video and photographs. I hope that you like it.

I know i've said it before but i definitely think you have a talent for adding audio.

It's not just the choice of tune but how hooks in the tune sync with edits, fade-outs for real time audio etc.
That 11 minutes would take me days to work out & i'd probably still never be happy with it.

Does the tv industry have a job title which covers all of that?
      Sound mixer?

      Re: She's back...

      Thank you gymno.

I had wanted to use some Fago music (Portuguese Folk) but I couldn't find any that was Royalty free so it would have been blocked on YouTube. Search YouTube to here some if you like.

It was was also being played on the bus when the commentary wasn't being made.

I'm not looking for a job in the TV industry. I had mentioned before that I had been learning over the past year how to use the software and you'll forgive me but the videos I've been uploading over the past year were a part of my learning curve.

The software I'm using does allow for a lot of creative control. My friend has also worked with creating videos in the past so I've taken a few tips from him and avoided a lot of the different transitions, for example.

Ultimately the whole idea of creating something to remember the holiday by for Chris and myself. I'm happy to share them with people here as it is something a little different.

Well it seems to me that you perhaps put a little less thought into it than i imagined...

Which to my mind is one of the defining traits of a 'natural' talent.
I have the zoo video fresh in memory here too.

As an extreme example, i think it's quite easy to see how a piece of footage can, with one choice of audio, appear to be taken from a horror film whereas the same piece with a different track behind it could easily be from a comedy.

I just wondered what that job title was because it really is something i could never do.

      Re: She's back...

      I don't know...

I could give a list but it's quite long. There has been a lot of work and a lot of practise going on behind the scenes. It wasn't as if we could just go back and redo anything which was messed up the first time.

Never having made a video properly previously, I knew that this would be a challenge. There are a host of different aspects required. I needed to learn as much as possible and become competent enough so that by the time we were getting on board the ship that I knew what I could produce.

Whilst I have some knowledge and experience of taking stills, a video is a whole different kettle of fish.

Add to all this, we didn't have the luxury of taking all the camera gear with us all the time. Sure I could take my tripods on the ship, but a tripod can become cumbersome as you are wondering around some of the sights and as you get on and off the bus or coach. Instead we went for monopods and this needed practise.

As for whether or not you could do it, I'm sure with suitable incentive and determination you could give it a try.

      Re: She's back...

I've just uploaded the next video. It's a little shorted than the one for Lisbon as we didn't do a great deal.

The weather has improved considerably though...

      Questions:

      1) Why only smoking on the port side?
      2) Did that waiter who waived get closer later?
      3) What meal & what course was that posh thing?
      4) Was that posh thing yours & were they your glasses next to it?
(I mean the eye glasses - the wine glasses were empty so obviously not yours).

      5) Oh & did you take a dip?
There are now confirmed regular great white visits to the south west of portugal's coast.
