      Hello All
I think as speedyrite has stated it is about time that Sky 'woke up 'but it seems that they have spent so much money on retaining the football !!!
worried that BT may gain the upper hand that they have lost the plot as
stated regarding Routers /Stb etc although I would not touch VM with a
bargepole Customer Service is Rubbish !!
Sky should have had a mobile option via SkyTalk 12 months ago but it never
arrived, 3D has not really taken 'Off no interest from BBC/ITV etc.
So once a leader could End as an also run . Sad Really but overpricing has not
      helped Sky's cause..............Just a Thought...Have a Good BH Monday

      Hmmm...

First the mighty Tesco found a big hole to fall in, are Sky going to follow their example I wonder?

Interesting analogy jrfer! The once mighty Tesco was the market darling and couldn't put a foot wrong a few years ago, but the cost of gaining their market dominance seems to have caught up with them now and wrongfooted them big time, and they are paying the price. Could it happen to Sky? They seem pre-occupied with NowTV and integrating Germany & Italy with UK just now. Eye off the ball?

      Here's a thought...

If Vodafone were to have taken over Sky, then what would BT be doing?

Vodafone could have considerably more cash to hand and really boost Sky's footprint in the UK and Europe with that.

I reckon that, if that had happened when it was previously rumoured, BT would still have been going ahead with the move into quad play - either buying EE as planned, or buying O2 which was rumoured before the EE deal emerged. I never really understood why BT binned off Cellnet (which they jointly started and owned and which eventually became O2) all those years ago! Now all these communications companies are going all out for quad play, fast and aggressive. I just feel that Sky has been too slow to recognise the potential benefits, too slow to get a plan together and is getting left behind.

      Hello All
I must admit I do not really understand how Sky have managed to get
themselves in this position !! they were always ahead at one time but
seem to have taken their foot off the pedal & allow others to get ahead
the Sky Hub is badly in need of an update & no new Box release either
I am sure if they would allow a Pick & Mix type of package this would bring
rewards, Also why no Mobile service ? many people I know would jump at
the chance to add that option to Sky Talk .
Maybe because profits were up this year the shareholders are Happy &
would be quite pleased if a takeover were to happen : who knows ??

      Just a Thought...............

With Sky wanting to get into the FTTP market they will need a more substantial router to be able to work with the 1GBit speeds. From chatting with someone else, a lot of the routers available can't fully support the 1gbps WiFi speeds, so I'll be watching for reports when it finally goes live.

As for Sky not producing a new Sky TV STB, well they have revised the hardware in the DRX89x range, but there have been no significantly major changes for some time now. The last changes have included: Increased hard drive from 500GB to 1.5TB and later 2TB; Addition of built-in WiFi; Removal of eSATA, UHF, Modem & Phono sockets.

The much anticipated launch of 4K UHD TV is expected this year. I am kind of surprised that it didn't launch around Easter time, but there are a few other good windows available between now and Christmas. Having the BBC work with them could mean that they have had to expand their remit a little too much and as a direct result the project has had a few delays.

I am wondering if Sky's dominance of the TV industry has meant that someone has started leaning on them a little too hard? There are a few people in Ofcom and the Government who are likely to hate the Murdoch empire, especially after the Telephone Hacking scandal.

In light of the story at the top of this thread, I'm not really surprised.

When will they change? Well that's what makes ISPreview a little obscure in this instance. If the merger goes through, then it could happen at any time, but it wouldn't go to O2 or Three.

Bit of a trend going on here! On BBC Business News today:

"Another big telecoms merger is in the works in the US. The Wall Street Journal reports that satellite TV operator Dish Network is in talks to merge with T-Mobile - the country's fourth-largest mobile network. No price has been agreed, but T-Mobile is worth about $31bn (20.2bn), while Dish has a market cap of almost $33bn. T-Mobile's chief executive John Legere would take the same role in the merged company, while Dish boss Charlie Ergen would become chairman.
