I currently have a VoIP set up at home (with Asterisk). What I've done is to blacklist numbers as we get them. On the occasions we do get nuisance calls, and it is something I can do, I will ask them to put me through to their compliance team and request a do not contact ( if it's a firm which has some data about me ).

Yep, all the advice given in this thread is the only advice worth reading.
I apologise for creating this thread.

The folks at channel 4 should hang their heads in shame for using 'how to stop your nuisance calls' as a title...

...For a 28 minute programme which spent 25+ minutes waffling on about nothing with just 2 or so minutes of ineffective advice tagged on at the end.

One of the quickest ways to get rid of those nuisance calls if to ask who they are & where they got your number. Next point out to the person that they are breaking the law in contacting you as you are registered with the TPS and you would like their name.

I have been on TPS for years, but still get occasionally calls, mostly making out that it is market research.
Quite a few people recently I now have had the India scam, where they say they are from the 'World wide web'

A good recent site that is now recommended for reporting these nuisance calls and work with TPS is
      Report a concern - ICO

I have mentioned before that I just answer the phone when I do not recognise a number with 'Ham and Pineapple Pizzas, can I take your order?', they mostly ring off and never to be heard again.
Or if they do carry on with their spiel I quickly bring up a Des O'Conner track i have on my iPhone and place the landline phone next to it. They hang up.
I use that track also on my iPhone as a hold the call track.
      Sorry Des, but it works!

Nice one lettice, but I don't know which is worse. Having the Des O'Conner track on your iPhone or admitting to playing it .

Thankfully I don't (touch wood) get too many calls of this nature. I have used the service that you've linked to above a couple of times. Singularly it isn't much use, but if everyone were to use it for each call, the culprits would soon be identified and closed down.
