Having been cold called several times by people claiming to work for Sky, I was pleased to see this in my local paper
16 accused of cold calling scam selling warranties on behalf of Sky Television Company | This is South Wales
Obviously it's not possible to discuss this actual case, but it's pleasing to find the police are aware of the problem.

Sadly these people will have been making a fortune from Sky's customers.
There is an official firm which Sky recommend if you ask them. However personally I would suggest that on the basis of the low failure rates and excellent service from Sky, you would be better off saving up £65 for their call out, should you have a problem, than spending money on a monthly direct debit.
Of course it is entirely your choice and laws of averages do mean that some individuals will get the unlucky boxes which fail a little more often.
