'Match of the Day' Alan Hansen issues apology over 'coloured' remark - TV News - Digital Spy

"I think it's better, not only with the players but with the supporters. I think there's a lot of coloured players in all the teams, all the major teams, and there's a lot of coloured players that are probably the best in the Premier League."

      What is the correct term?

      It's difficult.

When I was at school 'Black' was deemed very offensive and racist and we were taught to use the term 'coloured'. Now it's reversed.

I think he should have used the term 'ethnic', but it's so difficult.

Like you said players from 'ethnic minorities' can be used to generalise in terms of colour. But 'coloured' is clearly referring to black players.

True that. One of the biggest dilemma's of political correctness is that it evolves too fast leaving people confused with regards to what is socially acceptable and what isn't.

But I think calling black people 'coloured' was a bit silly from the start.

Re: Damned if you do damned if you dont

Question: If it is derogatory to call a football player black, is it not also derogatory to call one white?

( I know Satdish they are not white but pinkish)
