      BBC iPlayer

I have the Sky HD + box and see there is an Ethernet socket on the rear panel, but canít find any details about it!.

A pal of mine has the Humax box and is doing this: Ö.I have the HumaxBox and the Ethernet connection goes straight to my router and (bbc iplayer or itv player) is downloaded directly from their site on net....no laptop or pc involved........

So can I do this as well with my Sky box can some one please advise?

      Re: BBC iPlayer

You can connect your Sky+HD box to your router via wifi (needs an adapter which you can buy from Sky) or via ethernet cable. This will enable you to use Sky Anytime+ (you will need to get that added to your account by Sky or do it yourself via MySky).

Sadly BBC iPlayer & ITV Player are not available via the Sky+HD box (or indeed via any other Sky box).

      Re: BBC iPlayer

At the moment the ethernet socket can only be used for Anytime+, available to Sky Network Broadband users only. BBC iPlayer cannot be received through the HD box.

Agreed. The best solution is a Smart TV, A Humax Freesat box is expensive and doesn't display anything unlesss it's connected to a TV! I recently bought a Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV with iPlayer etc for well under £400. You will pay the better part of £250 for a Humax Freesat box and not have any of the choice offered by your Sky subscription.

Yes, the Sony KDL-24EX320 is on my shopping list for the January sales, to be my (replacement) upstairs TV.

Long before next Christmas I have little doubt BBC iPlayer plus a few other catch-up services will be part of the Anytime+ service which in turn will have become available to non-SkyBB users .

Haven't previously seen any rumours about the first bit, but the second bit is heavily rumoured to be coming in 2012 (as seen over in the DS forum).

Doubt that very much. The Beeb along with ITV etc is to launch it's own service and Sky declined to join, so as always it looks as if we will have two incompatible services and will need two boxes to receive both - that's why a TV with network connection is so important, it means you can receive iPlayer etc without spending £200 on yet another box to receive iPlayer!
