Unlike previous software updates which have been connected to Itunes to do the job, The new update can now be done simply by switching on the wi-fi and downloading and installing using just the device. Knowing from the past the appalling procedure with Itunes and loosing all your Apps and Music does the new way still remove all your Music Apps & Media

Nope, it doesn't remove everything (just as the old way doesn't either).

If you update via a Restore then it will of course wipe it and need re-syncing, but a standard update via iTunes or a delta update via WiFi should not lose *anything*.

The only iOS update that completely wipes your device is when you upgrade to iOS 5.0 onwards, but even then it does a full backup before it starts then does a full restore afterwards.

Issues will only occur if you don't let it perform the full restore once it's upgraded the OS to 5.0 or higher (which can take hours depending on how much music and apps you have).

I've also never had any issues upgrading iOS either via iTunes or over WiFi and have never lost anything.

Another thing to remember when upgrading via iTunes is to make sure you are not connected via a USB hub as Apple do not recommend you connect to iTunes via a USB hub at all, especially during a iOS upgrade.

I thought that this is the first time that one has been able to do an upgrade (on-air) on wi-fi , as that feature has only just been made available on the device. asbefore it could only be done connected to Itunes.

It is. So? It still does not wipe everything, nor does doing a full update to 5.0.1 via iTunes instead of a delta update via WiFi wipe everything.
