Sky bank details for standing order payments

Can anyone oblige me with bank details for Sky that I can set up a standing order with?

I know Sky say they only accept payment by direct debit or credit card but I don't believe them and, as I don't have a credit card and strongly object to direct debits in principle and practice, want to make regular payments from my current account without using my debit card through their website every time. I see from Sky's help (I use the term loosely) forum that another customer had huge problems even after setting up their standing order but this is probably down to Sky's lopsided understanding of customer service. I will definitely be dumping Sky at the earliest opportunity unless they remember that ‘the customer is always right’! I know this is not always absolutely true but in this instance of course it is because it’s me.

Sounds like you want to give yourself a hard time? Why? Direct debit is there for a reason. Sky will incur manual accounting costs for standing order if they don't have an automated system. The number of people who would want to use a standing order wouldn't justify the automation.

Sky have advised you of your options so if you try to ignore them no do it yourself then the result will be a painful one.

Have you tried checking your account once the bill has been raised?

I might be wrong, but you may be able to pay it by card a couple of weeks before the due date.

If you leave it to a week before, then it is still likely to be processed as a Direct Debit.

If it helps, I too am not keen on Direct Debits, but had to sign up to a DD with Sky.

Sky will charge you for not paying by the accepted methods. I think it is £4 a month or so. Also they want a £1 a month for paper billing.

Just pay by Debit Card, not sure on the amount but I think it is 50p or similar.

As for Direct Debit, Sky have always been spot on, they show what they are debiting before hand on MySky. So if you disagree, then just delete the DD on online banking.

Paying by Standing Order is not one of their recognised methods, and if you want to pay by that then you are going to have to pay the charges etc, totally your choice.

This is what I would do...

If I disagree with what they are planning to take by DD, it's probably better in the first instance to call Sky and discuss to get an explanation.

If I disagree with what they have taken by DD after the event, it's probably better to call the bank and inform them that the amount is disputed. As I understand it, the bank is obligated to give a full and immediate refund of that amount under the Direct Debit Guarantee.

If still in contract, cancelling the DD could be interpreted by Sky as breach of contract!

If out of contract, cancelling the DD could still be a bad idea!

Re: Sky bank details for standing order payments

If your fear is that they may debit too much, then would it be feasible to set up another current account with no overdraft facility? You could then set up your Sky DD on the new account and feed it by standing order from your main account. I think this achieves your intended goal but in a slightly roundabout way...

I agree with the thread starter the customer should have more control and options of how the Sky bill is paid, there current system has faults which can over charge for services.

Re: Sky bank details for standing order payments

I think the problem is that a standing order is for a fixed amount and Sky require the payment method to be flexible to cover things like Box Office or excess calls if you have Sky Talk. I can see their point in not wanting to be involved in trying to recover payment if a customer goes over the fixed SO amount.

Don't disagree with that but far better to negotiate and arrange with sky than to send random money to a sky bank account. It will only with tears.

The way i would envisage it would be receive bill from Sky then manually send the bill amount via bank account.

I agree sending money without a proper set up would be asking for trouble.
