      Re: SkyUser IRC

      Evening,
I have added a poll to this thread to see if people would use a IRC Based chat system. This doesnt mean you need to know what it is, as I would make a simple webchat for it but also make a guide on how to use it with a IRC Client

I know a lot of people love IRC chat rooms. They serve a particular purpose and I'm not knocking that.

Most of the kinds of things that people discuss on this forum are related to long-term issues or things related to Broadband.

In my mind, long-term issues are better discussed in a forum like this or an email based forum.

With Broadband issues, they often require the person to disconnect their router, requiring them to keep signing in afterwards.

Also I personally find it useful to refer back over past posts in a thread, which can last days or weeks, and compare stats and check what has already been asked.

IRC chat rooms can't really help too well in these instances.

As a social gathering, they are good fun though.

Sadly I am also aware of someone who was hosting an IRC site who was a little less than honourable. Information was gathered to allow them to hack into member's computers. Needless to say I left that site and haven't returned to any since others.

I also have a couple of friends who run a very successful IRC site. They are also involved in running an Internet radio station. Their's is a secure site and they have no issues with people attempting to hack others.

      Re: SkyUser IRC

Yeh I get the point from a security point, One of the things on my network is a priority and we stopped it by not allowing XDCC/FServe channels. Purely because they attract the wrong kind of people.
