      Birth Mark,

All of my life I have had a rather nasty looking mark on my left temple, and in the last two years it had begun to grow and became ichy and would bleed at the least provocation. It turned out it is called a Naevus Sebaceous and mine after years of inactivity, and developed a Basal Cell Carcenoma, so it was decided that me and it must part company, and the excision took place last Wednesday (12th) afternoon.
A very big thank you to Mr Meyer and his team at the Day Procedure Unit of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. I know at least one member reads this site, as soon as I have my stiches out, and I am able to open my left eye (its so black it looks like I've gone a couple of rounds with Frank Bruno) then a filter face plate and I will be heading your way.

Better safe than sorry Brian. My friend had a mark on his neck not so long ago which had to be removed, left him with a nasty scar but he tells the kids it was from pirates which they think is rather cool!!!

The NHS does seem to get slated a lot but the actual hands on staff are second to none for their dedication and commitment!

To right Smithy. I had to have two operation on my eyes, one on each about three years apart. Long term if I hadn't have had the ops then I could have lost my sight. I can't praise the NHS and my specialist enough for both carrying out the surgery and the after care which went on for a good few years.

      Re: Birth Mark,

In the last three years I've had both knees replaced. The first, done at my local NHS hospital, was a complete success. The second, done by the NHS at a local Private hospital by the same surgeon, was not quite so good. It's OK but there are twinges that the first knee doesn't have!
The level of care was much better than the NHS, but the outcome was not quite so good.
Full marks to my local NHS hospital!
      Geoff, York.
Can't call me a Luddite now!
