      Cancelling Setanta

I've just cancelled my Setanta subscription, partly because of the loss of Premiership football rights, but I might have cancelled anyway as I've hardly been watching any of their channels recently (my choice not a criticism of Setanta!).

I've read some stories on the 'net saying how difficult it is to cancel so thought I'd post my experience so far...

      Actually it's quite good

      Setanta's published number is 0871 200 3322
Saynoto0870 gave me 028 3082 4020, which I called and it got answered quickly.

I was asked to confirm my details and Sky viewing card number, then passed on to the subscription department.

Gave my details again and they advised me of the notice period and date of my last payment, They also advised I needed to confirm in writing, saying email is acceptable and they gave me the address (not sure I should write that in a post so I haven't) and said to include my name, address and account number.

Seems to me they've handled it well, which given their current problems surprised me a little, but credit where credit's due!

Hope this info helps anyone else who might be thinking of following in my footsteps for any reason...

      Cheers,

      Keef.

Just make sure they don't take another month's sub from you. It might be worth stopping the direct debit if that is how you pay.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep an eye out for that!

Fingers crossed I won't need to take any action, and there's always the Direct Debit guarantee scheme. We all know we can trust the banking system!!!

I did all of the above, three times actually. I still had problems. Their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing.

After the last payment, I canceled the Direct Debit. They wrote to me several times telling me to reinstate it, they also phoned me. I responded that I had cancelled but they just ignored it.

Then, after they got the message, they rang me anyway and offered me three months subscription at half price. I said no and to stop ringing me. Then I got two similar calls in subsequent days offering me the same thing.

They couldn't organise a booze up in a brewery. No wonder they are in trouble.

      Re: Cancelling Setanta

Setanta have had such bad press about the cancelling process that we left after the first 30 days.

It took us almost an extra month to cancel in the end!

It really does not surprise me that they have not got the subscribers they needed!

I feel quite sorry for Setanta and their staff. Admittedly they have had very bad press, but its still not nice to be in that position whereby you don't know if you have a job / future at all.

Without the footy they have to be finished now, loads of people will just cancel.

To true and I don't think anyone will think any different. However they have not helped themselves with their poor customer service and especially making people jump through hoops to cancel. No one in there right mind would make customers give 90 days notice before wanting out and I am sure that such tactics have put a lot of people off from signing up.

They still have FA Cups matches and England internationals plus the Scottish Premier League but I should imgine quite a few people will be off as those subscribers which are already way below what they need to break even, will be even worse for them.

      Re: Cancelling Setanta

I think Sky will end up with the Monday night Premier League games. Setanta would have to drop their subscription prices now anyway, to compensate for that loss.

BBC NEWS | Business | BT Vision stops selling Setanta

Television platform BT Vision has stopped selling Setanta Sports after the Irish broadcaster lost its rights to the English Premier league.

Existing customers are still getting Setanta output - either through a package or paid-for service.

But BT Vision said it was reviewing what it would provide "in the event the channel ceases broadcasting"
