You couldn't make this stuff up could you, I wouldn't be surprised if there are not many MPs that have lost or had stoeln something of importance, especially those that are supposed to be running this country.
I had to laugh at one comment over the weekend, instead of our enemies hunting us down in Iraq and the like they should just travel on the trains out of London.

Re: The official what have the government lost or had stolen this week thread
Six laptops containing information about 20,000 patients have been stolen from a south London hospital.
The computers were taken from a locked cabinet in a secure room at St George's Hospital in Tooting, in June.

Just a downside to technology I suppose. I bet paper documents have been going missing for years but they're harder to track. Also a laptop will have thousands on it so I suppose it's more noticeable. Invest in some encryption and I don't see a problem.

Re: The official what have the government lost or had stolen this week thread
The main problem is that encrypted laptops cost a lot more then normal network laptops, which bring out the finance complaints from the public/Parliament.
Departments are now encrypting laptops, most are probably completed by now, but this is only the departments and only counts laptops, desktops wouldn't be done.
The NHS is completely seperate, and would be down to local PCT's to decide if the encrypting of laptops is worth the cost.
As for Ms Blears computer, that would be up to her/her office to sort out, she broke the rules by having restricted documents on a personal computer, but it should still be encrypted.
Must say I love the comment by her office, it's passworded so nothing can be accessed, unless of course the guy takes the hdd out and uses it in a different computer...

Yeah well that's the problem in this country, people shout and ball when it costs to much and they shout and ball when things go wrong because they're done on the cheap! Can't have it both ways!
