OK. Well I have recently installed Microsoft Office 2007. It has every functionality that you would require in an office package given my experience with it so far.

My one major issue with it is that the layout has been severely changed from previous versions of Microsoft Office in the removal of all the classic menus at the top of the screen (file, view, format etc) to be replaced by new tabular menus under new headings. As such, the layout change probably is easier for a first time user but i am finding it hard to migrate from the previous versions.

As for works 8.5, I haven't had a whole lot of experience with it for the simple reason that due to it's lack of functionality I have never bothered with it. Now, it may be better than I give it credit for as I haven't used it much but I was very discouraged at the fact it could not open word document files (.doc). Given that Microsoft manufacture both products that is a basic feature that I would expect.

I received Microsoft Works 8.5 with my PC and the disk remains tucked away in my drawer.

Hope this helps and I am sure somebody else will be able to give you further information on Works 8.5

      Chris.
