      Do Sky answer the phone?

I want to change to Sky from Virgin but after waiting 30 mins on the 0870 number (premium rate of course) I gave up. All I wanted to know was if the "Home" package for 30 described in a flyer which came through my door is still available, as it does not seem to feature anywhere on the website. I already have a BT line as well as my Virgin line so there should be no problems, apart from the fact that the phone is in a different part of the house to the TV which is in a different room to the PC. Are the installers happy to grub around in the loft to get cables from A to B to C? Hope someone can help with this. Many thanks.

      No, they won't.

Health and Safety (over)compliance has got to the point where they are not allowed to go in the loft, won't go on flat roofs, won't climb a tall ladder etc. You may get lucky and get a Sky installer who is prepared to do this but I wouldn't rely on it. If you want any work of this type done then go to an independent Sky installer. It may cost you more but you'll be able to discuss your requirements in advance, get a fixed quote and have local backup in the event of problems.

Sky's own installers are the cheapest when it comes to a simple installation and you don't mind a dish a few feet above ground on the side/front of your house and aren't worried where the cables will go. Otherwise, a reputable independent is your best bet.

Thanks for the reply. Decided to order before I saw the post. Got through inmmediately this time and was advised that installer would not go in loft. Posts on other forums seem to indicate that if I have the necessary holes drilled (only two and already there) the installer may be happy for me to run the cable across the loft, which is boarded and perfectly safe! Also, for the Sky+ box, do I need a telephone line? Am I also right in thinking that a completely separate cable from the LNB is required for the second ordinary digibox in the bedroom?

you used to have to have one, but now i think you can pay a one off charge (about 30)

Yep, the installer may do this for you (but you may have to sweeten him up a bit), unless you are getting multiroom, i think they will do for free (as you will be subscibing for the extra monery each month)

Thanks Richone54. The deal I outlined in my original post does not feature on the Sky website but I was told it was a special offer. It includes Multiroom in the 30 pm. I only had to pay 49.99 for the Sky+ additional box. Seems pretty good value to me.
