DATZ.COM free music and texts offer
I've just bought an LG pay as you go mobile (Orange) from Sainsbury's.
The £9.95 price promised 50 free texts and some music downloads. In the box is a voucher from DATZ.COM which requires me to register on their site including the IMEI number of my phone. I know nothing about DATZ and they only seem to have WMA tracks (of little interest to me) but I would like the free texts.
Is there likely to be some catch -- like being forced to accept texts from them that I have to pay for ??
The phone is a small bare-bones model with a decent keyboard, small colour screen, less than ideal battery life and a single A3 sheet for the manual.
It's a model KG275 which isn't normally offered by Orange or even supported on LG's UK site but Sainsboury's price is literally half the price it's sold for in markets like Thailand, S. Africa.

Isn't giving them your IMEI number a bit dodgy ?

That was my reaction. I think I'll see if anyone at Sainsbury's head office knows just what the deal they signed up for entails.

Yeah, Giving your IMEI is dodgey (Worst case, It could be cloned, A stolen handset gets IMEI Cloned to your phones, Thus if it gets found, Both handsets get banned), Thinking positive, It could be that as soon as a handset is sold, Sainsburys pass over the IMEIs of those handsets.
So your eligibility is worked out through the IMEI you enter?

Hey Guys,
I'm Holly, marketing executive and web editor from Datz.com
I promise you that there are no catches attached to this offer, you register on the site and your 50 free text messages are sent to your phone within ten working days at no cost to yourself whatsoever
We have distributed the phones to Sainsburys and already have all the information for each phone, we only use the IMEI number to check eligibility for the offer, this is purely to prevent people trying to register for free text messages without purchasing a phone inclusive of the offer,
If you have any more questions contact me through the contact form on the Datz.com site
Cheers

Okay this makes more sense now.
The Datz site is part of Comment Retail Services who distribute mobile phones to retailers in the UK. The music site is bought in from another supplier -- pity the files were WMA (presumably with that DRM nonsense).

Re: DATZ.COM free music and texts offer
I recently bought a Dongle for my laptop from 3 - £9.99 with a Datz voucher for 5 free album downloads - managed to register on the site with my special voucher number but it wouldnt let me download the music !! Sent an email but no reply.
Think probably lot of people bin hoodwinked with this
its all rather a swizz and interestingly the people who I bought the dongle from dont want to know !
Would like to hear from anyone else in same situation and comments from someone at Datz would be useful !! ??

Hello Holly - well I bought a dongle for my laptop from the Company called 3 - £9.99 and with a datz voucher for 5 free album downloads. I managed to register on the site with my special voucher number but was unable to download the music.
understandably Im not very happy about this and probably a lot of people are in the same position - what are you comments about this situation and how it can be remedied ??
Interestingly enough it is not now possible to get onto the datz site - seems it has been closed ??

Re: DATZ.COM free music and texts offer
I believe that Datz has now stopped trading. It maybe worth a call to the company that supplied the vouchers / dongle?
