Well excluding the C64, and Amstrad CPC464 it would be:

an Intel 386 SX25, with 4Mb RAM and a massive 70Mb hard disc.

      What a beast.

IBM PC XT. 6MHz (or could have been 8MHz - can't remember) and 256k RAM with 10 Mb hard drive. When "half height" drives came along I upgraded to 20Mb.

My first PC was an Ambra (?) 386SX25, 2Mb Ram, 40Mb HD. Can't remember the price tho'. Came with Windows 3.1 and Lemmings pre-intstalled.

A few years later I had a PC built to my specs and I remember getting an extra 4Mb Ram (to 8Mb) for 144! A terrific deal at the time. I build my own now.

Re: what was your first pc ??

The first computer I ever played with was one of these...
Kaypro II computer - I remember playing a Star Trek stategy game on it!! The OS IIRC was CP/M

The first computer I ever owned was a speccy 48k. I managed to avoid "PC" ownership till 2001- my Amiga 4000 was fried by a power surge (life had no meaning for a couple of weeks after that) so I replaced it with a G3 Mac. In 2001 I bought my first PC - an Advent 300Mhz P3. - Worked fab with Linux!

Re: what was your first pc ??

Well, I think I trump the lot of you!!!

My first computer was a Sinclair ZX-81, running 1kb - yes, ONE KILOBYTE of memory - 50 or so bought a 16kb Ram Pack. Cut my teeth on BASIC at the age of 7 on that thing - then, two years later, got a BBC B micro running 32KB - introduced me to Assembly Language and Machine Code. Age? 9 or 10 years old. And I wonder why I had no friends....

Fast forward to my next upgrade - at 14, with an obvious love of computers, my parents spent 1500+VAT on an IBM PS/2 Model 30. I still have it - boxed - in the attic! Spec? Wait for it....
640kb (everone else was running in 512kb), NO hard drive (but twin 3.5" High Density floppies - don't you ever wonder why your C drive is a C drive and not a B drive? It's because when the first hard drives were around, A and B were your floppy drives), and the processor? A mind-blowing 4.77MHz Intel 8086. The computer had mono-channel sound and a cracking MCGA graphics card. This operated at CGA resolution (640 x 480) in 4 colours (black white magenta cyan) BUT - amazingly - could run 256,000 colours at 320 x 480, leading me to see the first ever photo-realistic image on screen (I still have the disk!). However, hardly anything could take advantage of the resolution so nasty CGA for most of the part...

Operating system was Microsoft DOS 3.2 and the machine was supplied with a mouse (again, still have it!) but not much use outside Fleet Street Editor or Pink TurboCAD...

Cut my teeth on Borland's TurboPASCAL and C on that machine - was so proud of it.

Unbelievably I still used the machine up to 1997 when I got a Compaq 486 with 8MB of RAM and 120MB Hard Drive, ran that with Windows 3.11 until I built a new machine a year later with a Cyrix 166MHz processor and 32MB RAM, plus a 3.2GB Hard drive.

I laugh at you guys who scoff at Pentium-75s - I still remember being awestruck at the processing power a friends 386DX offered over a 386SX - and when a 486-DX100 came along - bl@@dy hell, now we're flying...!!!!!

Fond memories, and fun to reminisce...!

Well if you're going to count a Sinclair as a PC then I'll trump you with my BBC A.
