Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

The same thing happened to me with Tiscali. I closed my account with them at the end of March and have since received two bills. Both bills were due to come off a now defunct credit card so I haven't paid. I called a month ago and was assured there was some technical glitch with their MAC codes and the account would be cancelled. Then, bingo, I get another bill. I phoned again this week and was assured once again that my account would be closed. I am not holding my breath.

Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

I have just tried to logon but when I click on 'my account' I don't get login at all but when I clicked on email this came up:
      Mailbox Server Login Failed
Your username or password has not been recognised. You may have accidentally made an error when entering it. Remember, the text you enter is case-sensitive.

For example, all these text entries are different:
I really don't know what is going on but I think I shall have to write to them or send an email - which is best I don't know because when, back in March I emailed to close the account I received an email stating that I could not close account by email because :
      Thanks for your email.

Unfortunately we are unable to disclose any account-specific information via email due to the Data Protection Act 1998.
      Also an email stating:
Thank you for your recent email in regards to cancelling your Freedom account.

Due to Virgin Media's company policy and our adherence to the Data Protection Act, we are unable to cancel your account via email.
This is why I phoned and was told by 2 people that everything was fine and the account would be closed on 28th March!

The problem is when you phone you have no proof/evidence of what is said!

I do sympathise with you. The customer service I experienced at Tiscali was always appalling but I stuck with them because I didn't want to lose my email address. Even now, when I have left, I am still having problems.

Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

It is such a nuisance as they are deaf to the fact that I spoke to someone on the 28th March which was the end of 30 day notice to which they assured that the account would be closed as from then - if there was a problem I should have been told then.

I would advise anyone who is changing ISP to write a letter for confirmation that the account is closed as you have no proof of the telephone calls you make and they will not discuss or close account by email because of data protection even if you provide your details and account number in that email!

Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

Sounds like they are trying it on. I had exactly the same difficulty with BT.After numerous phone calls at my expense, and two letters - BT eventually refunded me with £28. Then guess what - they now keep sending me a bill for 9p(nine pence)
I definitely wouldn't pay your old ISP and would write to Ofcom. Send everything recorded delivery and keep copies.

Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

I reported it to ofcom but they don't really want to know! This is part of the reply:
I appreciate that you have approached us for help but Ofcom does not become involved in settling disputes that consumers have with their service providers.

Ofcom’s role is about encouraging the communications industry to take ownership in addressing and resolving these.
It was a waste of time although they did include a contact :
Virgin Media is a member of Communications & Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS) for the purpose of ADR. CISAS can be contacted at CISAS, c/o Dispute Resolution Services, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, 24 Angel Gate, City Road, London, EC1V 2PT, Phone 020 7520 3827, Email: info@cisas.org.uk Website: CISAS: Communications & Internet Services Adjudication Scheme
What to do with this I don't know!

Re: OLD ISP viSENT BILL AFTER CLOSING ACCOUNT

When I try and access anything on the Virgin site using my old details, I get this:

The email address you used is not recognised as a valid Virgin Media account. Please try again.

Not sure about the message that you get??
