Two sides to every story and I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash.

Re: Virgin TV in BSkyB court action

If Virgin had had something decent to offer sky in the first place then they wouldn't have needed to accept Sky's lower offer. Sky has the better programming so can afford to charge more for it. Virgin didn't have to accept Sky's offer and Sky doesn't have to accept Virgin's. Just seems like common sense to me.

Virgin obviously have nothing else to play with now and are squealing because the nasty Sky boy won't give thier ball back.

Looks like it's time to go and cry to mummy now.

Re: Virgin TV in BSkyB court action

Yes I did read it, thank you.

Virgin made a serious business error and now they are crying about it. They agreed to a 'bum deal' with no guarantee that there would be any reciprocal arrangement for Virgin running the Sky channels. You never agree to anything until you are sure you are going to get what you want out of the deal. Big mistake.

      Sharp practice? Yes, definately.

      Illegal? I doubt it.

Last month the National Consumer Council accused Virgin Media and BSkyB of "behaving like children", and regulator Ofcom has asked for a review of the digital television market in the wake of the row.
      Couldn't agree more.

I notice the money that Virgin didn't pay Sky has not been translated into reduced rates for thier customers. Sharp practice? Illegal?

Well sorry Lazarus but you're coming across all 'I'm a Sky fanboi'

You're hijacking the argument by trying to make it about a 'bum deal' when it's actually about whether Sky have acted illegally or not.

Also, you're attacking Virgin (ad-hominem - my fanboi comment also :S) rather than attempting to address any of the points raised in their statement.

What little argument is left after cutting away the dross is that you think this is ok:-

Sky demanded a price for its basic channels that was some 17 times greater than it was prepared to pay for the Virgin Media TV channels, even after adjusting for the Sky basic channels' marginally higher share of total viewership.

Re: Virgin TV in BSkyB court action

Listen up, Its like any business,
for e.x. Tesco they make good business links so that they can keep the prices down, When the supplier raises the game, Its either ya take it or leave it..

You dont sulk about it and take it to the high court, You pay more, if Virgin were really dedicated a little increase wouldnt have mattered.

All this abusing the rights.. wtf.. Sky created those channels.. Paid the reporters.. and so on.. If Virgin want serious competition and want great value for there customers they should create there own news channel and then they can control what service they give to their customers.

Re: Virgin TV in BSkyB court action

      You do that,
If Virgin want more, Then ask for more, If Sky refuse, Then so be it.
If Sky want more, Then they asked for more, Virgin refused, End of!

Its all about these "Basic" channels, If Virgin believe they are being asked to pay this higher fee, for content which isnt worth it, Then develop your own "Basic" channels, Invest the money that you are NO longer paying Sky, Into these channels.

Damn, Bet im another person on someones "Bad - Sky FanBoi List"

      My 2p worth

Sky were smart, they negotiated the better deal.

Virgin Media need to learn to negotiate better deals, or maybe poach some of Sky's staff.

At the end of the day VM asked for more time to renegociate the Sky deal, instead of closing it when Sky bought the VM channels. If they would have been smarter, they would have said to Sky:

"You can have our deals at X amount if we can have yours at Y amount, and closed it that way. I could have done a better job and saved all the Sky channels on Virgin Media.
