    God they earn alot..

This is a discussion on God they earn alot.. within the General chat forums, part of the Community channel category; I believe they earn 30,000-40,000 if they are busy. When you are talking wages it also depends where you live ...

well he certainly needs to be retrained he said my install needed the special heights team which was a 2 man job - yet 2 days later only 1 guy turned up

okay russ, well maybe the guy wasen't lazy - however he couldn't do what the guy who came 2 days later did without problem

the place where my dish is at is 13 feet off the ground and i can get to it with my OWN step ladder

health and safety my butt is my response to that.... it was a sunday and the guy just couldn't be bothered is more likely...

I'd say 19K is about right for that kind of work, it's not exactly demanding now is it?

Depends how many hours work they put in but you probably won't get anybody reliable to work 6 days a week including sundays for much less than 25k even in the north.

You answered your own argument with saying "special heights team" was needed and it is either a 1 man job OR a 2 man job depending what the engineer asks for.

Health and safety....YOU can climb your own ladder and if you fall off, it's your own problem but do you have 'public liability insurance' incase an engineer were to fall off the ladder on your property? I doubt it. As such, the engineer has a right to say .... " "sorry mate"! ( you wouldn't drive your mates car if you weren't insured so why should a Sky engineer climb a ladder when he isn't insured against injuries incurred on your property )

      Re: God they earn alot..

Health and Safety is more hassle than its worth.

In the old days, when I were a lad and the streets were cobbled, installers would have cut corners and used wobbly ladders etc etc.

H&S is just too much red tape. You cannot even paint your own premises as a shop owner unless you use scaffolding. I am not saying the installer is wrong, but the last thing the guy wants is:

      1) To be injured or fall off a ladder

      2) To then get prosecuted for violating H and S

      The world has gone mad.

Bring back the old days, when a Policeman could clip your ear and drag you home because you had been a naughty boy. Oh and the black moriahs, they were great fun on a Friday night when you had been outside the off licence all night.
~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

      Re: God they earn alot..

      Morning russ,

every engineer who has been has said it is skys policy - and if they werent contracted to them they would do it.

as for the special heights team - well, i was told by all engineers they were only needed if a dish had to go on a chimney or anywhere over 30 ft

as i said my dish is around 13 feet off the ground, and imho a satellite engineer who cannot climb 13 feet without moaning about it is no use atall.

Why would i need proof? I`m assuming it's because your a courier? ( or am i mistaken? ) I know the ins and outs of 'public liability insurance' due to my wife being a childminder.

If. it's a companies policy of not allowing their engineers or even certain engineers in their employ to climb a ladder i'm afraid your opinion wont count a jot. To be honest if it were me i'd have called SKy and asked why the 'lazy' engineer didnt want to do it, then you'd have had an answer from the horses mouth so to speak.
