      SEARCH Skyuser and Google

      The new Search box (top right) is a great innovation for this site.
      Skyuser has so many answers to frequently asked questions about Sky.
      It should be helpful to everyone especially new users.

      I even found myself (murdock) by searching for my screen name.
      And the real Murdoch too.

      If it makes things easier for everyone, it was well worth the hassle for me to change the template only took about 2 hours to edit it and make it look right

      Thanks for suggesting it Murdoch

      Re: SEARCH Skyuser and Google

      I have a website that unfortunately is hosted on a local shared drive as opposed to server space (due to political reasons as opposed to techincal).

      I'd love to have a search engine on it, but have been struggling.

      Last night I managed to find: Everyfind : site search for PDF, DOC, HTML: JavaScript search engine script for CD/DVD/web site

      Has anyone got any recommendations or advice on how I can add a search function to it?

      @ Red

      If you want the same thing as what we have I can help you out on it, now I know what I am doing. Its not a big job whatsoever. Just putting some code into the templates

      Re: SEARCH Skyuser and Google

      Cheers NR,

      yes if it's possible to have a google search engine search a website on a local drive.

      I'm just looking at the html code for this page and I can find the google search bit and copied that into my code.

      The search box appears fine, but it only searchs the net and not my site (i've changed it to value="J:\FolderName"

      Re: SEARCH Skyuser and Google

      The Google search uses pages that are already indexed on the T'internet but directs the results as if it uses our pages. I am not sure if you can do it the way that you want to.

      If you want to see how many pages Google knows about your website, try the site command

      site:mydomain.co.uk

      For ours it is

      site:www.skyuser.co.uk

      The code we used is:

      Code:
      <form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search">
          <input type="text"   name="q" size="15"
       maxlength="255" value="" />
          <input name="submit" type="submit" value="Google Search" />
          <input type="checkbox"  name="sitesearch"
       value="www.skyuser.co.uk" checked />
          <strong>Search SkyUser only</strong>
                                  </form>
