What profile / delays am I on please?
Hi guys and girls,
I signed up to Sky in Feb, from Virgin (due to F1) but the only thing im missing really aside from the actual connection speed is the differerence in pings when gaming.
Having nosed through the forum a bit now I gather that there are different profiles / delays that are set and you can request to be put onto lower ones usually at the expense of sync speed.
Can anyone tell me what delays I am currently set to, and what my options are for getting the ping as low as possible. Not majorly fussed with sync speed dropping, providing it stays above ~5mbps.
All these test carried out from a PC on the LAN connection and not wireless.
Many thanks in advance!
Chris

Re: What profile / delays am I on please?
If your line has been set by DLM you are probably on the minimum delay, but you could call Sky and ask them to check and if you are not, ask them to put you on a delay of 8 or the 'gamer profile'. Looking at your stats you should not loose much speed, if any.

Thanks very much Isitme.
Yes, my line was set by DLM and nothing further has been changed since that point just over a month ago.
I shall give sky a ring then!

Re: What profile / delays am I on please?
The first hop is 21ms that is delays 8
if it was 16 it would be
16 x 2 + imp = around 37

Re: What profile / delays am I on please?
So i was already on the 'gamer profile' effectively?
I have just got off the phone from Sky and they say they changed my settings, but im not noticing any difference in ping (its slightly worse but I will put that down to the time of day difference from traffic)
But they have decreased my upstream sync down to 796kbps now.
I dont mind losing speed to actually gain somewhere else, but this hasn't gained me anything. I will just sit on this now for a few days and see how things fare.

Re: What profile / delays am I on please?
This is the problem with phoning them
you need to phone back up
the first person didnt know what they where doing
and messed up your upstream
