Slow d/l speed / high latency...please help!
Hello, first time posting here so will make it as to the point as possible.
Since Friday night, i have had latency issues.
I phoned Sky tech support, they say everything seems fine.
I have power cycled, hardwired, run anti virus, anti spy ware, changed filters.
No difference.
I thought i might have a connection to my network (which is password protected) from someone who shouldnt have been on there somehow, so i changed my router and network password.
No difference.
I ran a speed test or 50 last night and my d/l speed going from 6.5 Mbps to 0.1Mbps.
My latency was when gaming was going from 100ms to 1000ms, i ran speed tests with everything closed and was getting the same results.
this morning i updated my router firmware, thinking maybe its a problem there, but does anyone have any further suggestions?
Cheers

hopefully that is what your after?sorry i didnt include it to begin with
i am told from a couple of friends who work in IT that they would bet their bottom $ on it being a sky problem, as the line speed is fluctuating so much at random times. i just dont know though....Last edited by RossN; 11-06-08 at 12:22 PM.

it is wireless or hardwired

Re: Slow d/l speed / high latency...please help!
nothing has been moved around since or before the problem began on friday night.
my laptop sits about 2 feet from the router with nothing metalic around.
my signal strength is always very good (4 or 5 bars) and doesnt really fluctuate.
as i said, the problem seems to be quite random and is wireless or hardwired.
i am thinking of phoning Sky again.
thats at the time of posting, will do a couple more through the day and see what sort of variations i get

have you got another pc to test with?
the windows signal strenth can be very misleading, it doesnt take into account noise.

Re: Slow d/l speed / high latency...please help!
Have you tried changing channels on the router? Also if you believe it to be an issue with the adsl signal coming onto the router why not run on ethernet for a period of time to get a set of stats across a 24 hour period? If your speed in your stats is continuously changing it could point to a problem in one place where as the issue with wireless could be dragging you away from the main source of the slow down.
