Ping Stats..............where?
I have recently been gaming online, and although im only using a DS (not blessed with either a 360, PS3 or wii as yet) my game stats are suffering due to a disconnection problem. I am increasing reluctant to spend the money on any of the above systems if my connection is going to be constantly impaired.
Is this something that could be caused by high pings? I have read through alot of different posts in the forum and although i can see the general stats that people are acheiving i havent got the first clue how to establish what pings i am acheiving. I have searched through the forum with no success.
Could someone please give me an idiots guide as to how to find out what i am acheiving
Thanks in advance

Re: Ping Stats..............where?
your disconections may also be a wireless problem (sorry if you are wired, i do not have a DS a would not know how you connect)
if it it wireless mabey trying another channel on the router may help ?

Re: Ping Stats..............where?
Also, most games will report the ping to the particular server you are playing on. You dont say which games you play, but for example in bf, tf2 etc hitting left tab will bring up the player list and your ping is shown there. May be stating the obvious here but uk/european servers will ping a lot lower than asia/usa.

Re: Ping Stats..............where?
Thanks for that, i decided to ping the bbc homepage instead as i know alot of people have used that results are below
Pinging BBC - Homepage [212.58.253.67] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=395ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=408ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=476ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=237ms TTL=121
Ping statistics for 212.58.253.67:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 <0% Loss>,
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 237ms, Maximum = 476ms, Average = 379ms
This doesnt look too good compared to the stats i have seen other people post.
Im i right in thinking this is bad?
I am using the Netgear white sky official router (DG834GT i think the model is) and the wireless connection is always top notch. I have used this forum as a reference to make sure that the setup is as good as it can be, and considering my neighbour is also with sky (I can see his wireless connection if i search) his signal is dramatically decreased compared to mine.
any suggestions to resolve this issue?

Re: Ping Stats..............where?
simple - don't game via wireless!!!
try it wired and you'll see a decrease in ping times...wireless is fine for browsing but not gaming unfortunately. perhaps give Homeplugs a try...-------------------------------------------

Re: Ping Stats..............where?
after running the ping, and posting the results, i realised that i was downloading during the process so i ran it again.
That must have had some effect as the reults have changed quite some.
new results as follows:
Pinging BBC - Homepage [212.58.253.67] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=59ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=56ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=55ms TTL=121
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=54ms TTL=121
Ping statistics for 212.58.253.67:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 <0% Loss>,
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 59ms, Maximum = 54ms, Average = 56ms
So these appear to be the acurate results as i have since re-run while downloading and have acheived similar results to the first.
Now when i am playing online im not downloading, the computer is very rarely on at the same time, and even if it is its the breadknife on myface or something like that.
Can anyone offer any advice?
