Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
Hi there, Im new to the forums so tell me if Ive posted in the wrong place.
At the moment when my NAT settings are moderate Im using Upnp to set NAT to open. This works for the most part but on occasions I loose connection. Usually about 45mins - one hour into gameplay.
SO my question is, should I keep going like this and putting up with it, or would looking into port forwarding be better?
Ive never tried port forwarding so I dont really know how hard, time consuming or effective it is. Any info is helpful

Re: Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
It certainly won't hurt to try port forwarding; here's how you do it:
Firstly you MUST set up a static ip for your xbox, just do this:
So set the Xbox to auto in the System Blade/Network Settings.
Once your router has assigned the xbox an IP Address view the IP Address on the System Blade/Network settings.
Write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. Then simply go into the IP Address settings, change the settings to manual and enter all of the information you wrote down.
Using this method means there's a possibility you could get a duplicate IP Address later on as the router might hand out that same address again. If it does, just add 30 to the last digit of the IP address. e.g. if its 192.168.1.10 make it 192.168.1.40
Secondly it's time to forward the ports, see this guide for the ports to be opened. (Note: the guide states that the username and password to log into the router are admin and password, however, with the sky router they are admin and sky respectively).
If you get any more problems, just post back here. Also, if this works for you, can you post back here so people in future know what to do.

Re: Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
Ok, so at first glace it didnt look to bad... but Im a little confussed.
I did what you told me and entered the Ip settings into the 360 manually.
Looked at the guide and got a bit lost.
I added the custom service xboxlive3601, tcp, 3074. xboxlive3601, tcp, 88. xbox live udp, 3074.
This is all I need to open?Last edited by | Nik |; 22-02-08 at 07:24 PM.

Re: Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
I think so, the other option is to add the ip address of your xbox to the routers DMZ. If you do this then cancel the port forwarding rules that you have set up.

Ok well, my services are correct and look like this: http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/8792/ss1xn0.jpg
But I got a little bit lost with the firewall rules.
I think the outbound services are correct, but the inbound I havent touched because I didnt understand the tutorial. It looks like this:

Ive also just checked and my NAT is stil moderate on the 360.

Re: Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
Ah Ive figured it out, on the inbound I just set it to my 360's IP and then its set to open.
Now I can turn Upnp off and hopefully have a more stable connection.

Re: Quick question about opening NAT for Xbox Live
Try turning UPnP off, then test your xbox connection from the dashboard. If it is still open then leave it like that.

This is all well and good until you have TWO xbox 360's
