Ping and Max Delay
I seem to be getting hihg pings wen playing counter-strike on sky 8meg than i did on my old 1meg connection with blueyonder. I read a thread about asking sky to set max delays to 8 and got a reply saying that this had been done which made no difference to my ping. I then emailed again saying it had made no difference and got a mail back saying that the max delays could not be changed because i have a BT phone line.
Anyone else had this problem?

Re: Ping and Max Delay
are you on connect or Mid?
if on Connect, your line is regulated by BT, not Sky, and is set to Fastpath instead of interleaved as standard. This wouldn't allow for Max delays to be adjusted.
If on Mid, then the person who replied to you was confused. it doesnt matter who your line provider is, as long as the broadband is regulated by Sky on the base, mid or max package.
But its hit and miss whether max delays affect your ping. There may be other factors causing your ping to be high which the max delays wont fix, so it could be that they have been changed, its just something else causing your high pings

Re: Ping and Max Delay
If anyone is having any high ping or latency problems and are an onnet sky broadband customer (Base, Mid, Max) call sky broadband tech support and although tier 3 can set the maz delay down to 8 tier 1 agents will probavly not understand what this is. The simpliest way to get the max delay changed is to be troubleshooted for a slow connection. Then a ticket will be created for CST (Tier 2 and 3) and then tell the CST agent that it is the max delay you want changed down to 8.

Re: Ping and Max Delay
rang em ten mins ago and their troubleshooting me for a slow connection. The woman I rang didnt understand what tier 3 was. Im on base even though I asked for max and using BT line (interleave). So are they gonna transfer me to tier 3 when i ring backa nd say that all of the troubleshooting problems dont work. So some1 can understand what I am saying

Re: Ping and Max Delay
thats cause tier doesnt exist any more (and hasn't for a few months) as it merged with tier 2 to form CST - if the tier 1 agent is new they might only know it as this...
best bet, email in and it'll get picked up...-------------------------------------------

Re: Ping and Max Delay
Hi Guys
I have a quick question I would not mind Sky setting my max delay to 8, now firstly my father is the account holder but he is not familar with the technical aspect of things like this so is there an email address that I could send a request to for this to be done?
Also whats the type of thing I need to say just keep it short and sweet in the email?
Edit: Just done a speed test and my ping is showing as 130-140ms roughly each speed test, is it worth trying to get max delay lowered and hopefully lower the ping?
Thanks
