Extremely high ping in online games and bad speedtest HELP

Hi again thought i would post here rather than start a new thread . . .

I have tried everything to lower my ping levels for online games i have just recently upgraded to Sky Broadband max 16meg speeds my max delays are set to 8 and i am on this Tier 3. On my 8meg sky an example i will use is speedtest.net connecting to maidenhead on 8meg i had average about 80-105 ping now with 16meg and tier 3 , max delays at 8 and im connected using cables now it has improved slightly for games but its still pathetic its at an average of about 50 - 70 to maidenhead.

I have seen my download speeds on speedtest average at 12 to 13.2 meg im guessing its lowered because of my max delays being reduced? Im not happy having 50 - 70 ping being less than 50 miles away from maidenhead so the speedtest.net says whats it going to be like playing online games to other parts of Europe? im sure you can imagine some games are unplayable because of packet loss and jerking of games.

Theres no way in a million years is my router running at 15.5meg and 750 upload speed my average upload speed is about 620-650kbps from speedtest.net.

My other question is that when i run broadband speed checker from skyuser i think it said that my internet speed is about 9 to 10meg and upload 530 about. Is there a reason why its even worse when i run the speed test using the speed checker from this site?

Overheads, you are never gonna get exactly your sync speed either up or down from a speedtest site. The figures you have got are round about right. Your stats show a few errors which if addressed may improve things. I've found the ping reports from speedtest to be inacurate ( or should i say not representative of what i see in game) i get a similar ping from that site when using the same test server, but in game its around 30.

Sorry to revive this, but i feel its relevant as i am experiancing the same problems. And did try to cable it with a ethernet cable, and i am still suffering the same problems, i play a fairly low performance game Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. Small community low CPU. I was told it was my computer a system restore has proved that wrong, ive changed wireless adapters. Still using the DG934G router provided by sky after our old one "blew" up.
I highly doubt its the games fault.
Can anyone at all help me with this?
