My ping has been lowered by tier 3 :)
I can't fault sky today. I called up this morning for the first time got a ticket number regarding my poor pings which were 100ms+. I was advised that the queue for tier 3 was about 30mins. I was also advised to call back later today quoting the number to avoid waiting.
I called at 5pm got straight put on hold for 1min and then straight through to T3 who jigged around with my sync speed dropped it from 8MB to 3MB, which was the max I receive anyway, then he changed my max delay from 32 to 8, and after resyncing I got 35ms pings straight away.
I also noticed after 1 hour I had less errors on my line, less packet loss and finally I can enjoy gears of war and FEAR.
whoppee
Sky have went up in my ratings.
I hope other people are given some hope from this
Cheers
Dave

Maybe just maybe Sky are listening to their customer's feedback.

Good to hear you managed to get through to T3 - no luck over here at all unfortunately.

Re: My ping has been lowered by tier 3 :)
I was previously with Newnet. I used to get pings in the mid to high 30s on my favourite CS servers. When I switch to SKY this more than doubled to the high eighties\low nineties.
My line is not the best - being quite far from the exchange and limiting me to 1.5 to 1.8 Mbs. So, I called Sky to ask if anything could be done (knowing full well details of my prevoius performance with newnet, my line length, and that SKY use interleave and not fastpath). Plus - and the important bit - I was in my 8 working days cooling off period.
So... I made quite a few phone calls going through the usual (predictable script based support from the foriegn call centres, but more understanding and flexibility from the UK people) until I got an incident number. I then made a few more calls and made sure the support staff new I was in my cooling off period and that I was thinking about cancelling Sky BB. I asked the techies to note this down in my incident. I also used the web form to send info about my problem - pasting in some pingplotter stats - maybe unnecessary but......
1 more call was made - telling them that I wanted to cancel. They siad that they would call me back within my cooling off period and help me out. Later that day (yesterday) I received a call and, hey presto, a quick change was made to my line and now all is well!
My pings are not as low as Newnet (but I never expected them to be as it is a little unrealistic to expect sky to be as quick as an Entanet backed reseller).
However, I am more than happy with the service I received (from the UK call centres) given the amount of calls these guys are dealing with. So I am staying with Sky for the forseeable.
£5 per month for my package is excellent value given that I primarily play games, and the girlfriend browses. It is a pity fastpath was not enabled, but not critical.
Hope that this info is useful to someone. Especially if you are in your 8 days cooling off and are thinking about cancelling.
EDIT:
Problem is back...obviously the fix was temporary.

I'll have to call them again. The last day of my cooling of period is monday - they better ge it sorted otherwise I am off. Mind you, how can I be confident that any solution will be more than temporary.Last edited by Goodbye Ble Monday; 27-07-07 at 08:53 PM. Reason: new developments....
