High ping in evenings

I've noticed the same thing over the last few nights and just found this thread. I play a lot of HL2 and my pings have gone from 45ish to 140+ but only at evening.

Having done a trace route to some of my favourite servers, I hjave noticed that the 2nd hop (has my exchange code in it, is that the DSLAM?) varies quite a bit and the 4th hop to an ov.easynet.net server with the IP address 89.200.132.53 is dropping nearly every packet (10 in 12).

Are other people getting similar results?

Also some UK servers are affected and not others, bbc is pinging at 45ms at the moment one of the game servers in the UK is at 90ms.

Missing my HL2 fix at the moment, hope sky sort it soon.

Well yesterday and today the problem seems to have gone again so maybe just a temporary fault.

Back to how I was before no so quite happy again.

Still happening to me, but it does seem to clear up at around 9:30pm.

Hi all,

It is not sky's network you are on, as if you are on connect you are using btipsteam as such you are on bt's network not sky's. Many people on bt's network get these high ping times but i am affraid that sky wont be able to do anything about it without going through bt as they control the connections on the connect package. Most people on sky's network ( i.e , base / mid / max packages ) dont have as much of a ping issue as people do on the connect package...

I happen to be on max and for the last 3 weeks I've been getting 69-70ms to bbc.co.uk, before on connect it used to be 28-30.

I am on max and have never had any issues regards ping times, i still ping 28-30 to bbc.co.uk and ping around 20ms in CS:S so gaming is great, there are many factors involved in ping times like speed increases from connect to max can cause more packet loss due to the higher speed and also your local exchange maybe at capacity for max unlike mine which is only around 3/4 full.

If everyone was getting high pings on max i would blame sky's network but i think its more of local thing.

This is a really weird thing because i'm on the same exchange as dholdi, but pings are 40-50ms higher (60-70 vs 20). It's quite possible though that this happened due to migration to max, but shouldn't it be fixed by now? No reply from sky whatsoever and all I get is tier1. Quite unlucky for an active clan online gamer.
