Lady needs help on sky + and freesat!
Hi everybody i am new and hoping sumbody can help me! I live in block of flats with a communal sky dish. I have a 32" tv with freeview built in my friend told me about freesat and so i want 2 get one. if i bought a sky + plus box off ebay, i am aware i would have 2 ring sky to get a card for £20, but would i be able to record programs onto the + plus and also if just get a normal box do i have 2 subscribe to HD channels as i also have a dvd recorder that used to record fine when i had a crt tv and freeview box but now even with freeview it only tunes into the a
analogue channels i.e bbc1 also does sky have 2 run threw my phone line as my boyfriends sky does? any advice appreciated p.s. i also dont get any freeview signal in my bedroom so would i have 2 get 2 sky boxes

well to record you have to pay sky £10 per month sky+subscription
and a normal box (no rec) needs one feed,eg from a communial dish but a sky plus box needs 2 so it would need a seperate dish, and a quad lnb(4 outputs) so you could have 2 sky plus boxes. if you wand sky+hd then it would be cheaper subscribling to sky on the basic subscription and multiroom or a tv link.
if you need more help then just ask
oh and if you subscribe you will need it connected to the phone

I can't see why your DVD recorder should not record digital channels if it is connected to a Digital box. If it has a built in Tuner this may not, but connected to a Sky or Freeveiw box it will not be using it's internal tuner.
You need 2 connections to the Sky+ box to enable recording. This can be 2 wires from the dish or through a stacker device which I think is quite expensive.

Don't forget that the cheapest Sky TV package also entitles you to FREE Sky Broadband and FREE Sky telephone calls. So it may be you can move your broadband to Sky and essentially get Sky TV for free (or at a very reduced price) as you won't be paying another ISP.
HDTV picture quality on a large screen TV is often better than SD pictures BUT (and it's a big BUT) most SD is still very watchable (ITV1 is a noticeable exception). In any case not a lot is broadcast in HD. I have both and use both quite happily.

As a new customer you may be able to get something better for nothing more than the installation cost. If you can get a Sky+ box as that has a Hard Disk recorder and the best software available - genuinely 1 press recording and 1 press playback.
