switching between sky and tv affects picture quality

I just noticed a weird thing on both my sky+ boxes the other day.

If I press the TV button the picture quality actually improves by a significant amount, this happens on both my sly+ boxes which are both connected to samsung HDTV's, pressing the sky button again reduces the quality.

Does anyone know why this is and how to have the better quality while in sky mode and not tv mode, as keeping it in tv mode is not really feasable, especially when in live pause or watching recorded programs as switching back to sky mode buggers up the pause/playback.

It was just a suggestion since thats what happens when you press the TV button. It turns the scart control off which then means it will display in Pal rather than RGB. It should normally be set to RGB.

Would better quality scart cables change anything, or perhaps using AV or component cables instead of scart ?

I think the wavey lines may be a give away. Open up the scart plug at the t.v end of the lead and remove/clip the wire to pin 19
      this may help

Re: switching between sky and tv affects picture quality

I have a Samsung 46" HDtv, I have had similar problems in the past, this seems to happen because of the position of the scart sockets on the TV. Get a good quality screened SCART lead and try to run it down the centre pilar of the TV stand to keep it as far away from the rear of the set.

Ensure that the mains plugs and transformer are also kept away from them.

Re: switching between sky and tv affects picture quality

Snake - I have just typed another thread on this subject:

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky/2...tml#post171658

I stumbled across this thread and followed Woodster's advice. I then set up my new TV propery, and found that the factory settings were far too bright and were actually giving me a sore head!

I'd suggest fine tuning your TV. I believe some kids' Disney DVD's contain a THX tuning section which can provide great results.

      Good luck.

Re: switching between sky and tv affects picture quality

it is not a brightness problem, it is a picture quality problem.
The previous suggestion of switching from RGB to PAL did actually work on one of my TV's, but not the other.
