      freesat on spare card

when I got sky HD installed afew months back sky for whatever reason sent me 2 viewing cards (blue with yellow house). One is in my HD box with sub but the other as far as I know is unactivated. can this card be turned into a freesat card as I have a disconnected box in the spare bedroom (can recieve some channels on it) or would sky try charge me to turn it into a freesat card?

i think Sky charge 20 for a freesat card. You should however be able to receive free to air channels.

      Insert card, got engineers/ Installers menu"services, 4, 0, 1, press select.
choose new installation, wait for box to come back on , try Chn4.
If it`s still not available then leave on Chn4 and leave box turned on overnight.
You should then have Chn4 and 5.
If this doesn`t work then you may need to do a forced update to box.
Unplug Sky box from mains, press and hold `Back up` button on box (not remote), plug back into mains and keep`Back up` pressed until all 3 lights on box light up together, then release and then wait for the sky box to come back on, it may goto stand by when finished updating so press `stand by` to start box back up. Check if Chn4 is watchable. if not then run through the first part of this post again.
BTW if your card say something like `this card is not activated please contact sky` then it probaly has been cancelled by sky and will not work.
If card says on Chn4 `To subscribe to this channel` then following these steps should work.

Yep looks like Skys cancelled that card

Do hear on the grapevine though that Chn4 will be `Free to view` on sky around march time (without card) and no doubt shortly followed by 5.

Channel 4 is currently "Free to View" (FTV), which means that although it is free it is encrypted. The same with Five.

C4's deal with Sky is coming to an end this year, & it's expected that they will then make Channel 4 "Free to Air" (FTA)... free and unencrypted.

Don't know if that will also affect E4 & More4 (which are both currently subscription only on Sky, yet are totally free on Freeview).

      Dunno about Five.

      Yeah that`s what I meant.
Channel FIve should follow Chn4 to `Free to Air`, as they`ll not want to miss out.
