My story below is not directly related, except to illustrate
how helpful Local Trading Standards can be.
A few years ago I was dealing with sales people at
a computer company who were badly trained and did
not understand Distance Selling Regulations.
My local Trading Standards Office were so helpful I
sent the lady who helped me, by e-mail and phone,
a bouquet of flowers.

I never accept any "offer" by telephone. I always ask for it to be put in writing and posted or emailed to me. Likewise any correspondence is in writing - NEVER by telephone. I keep a careful record of everything. If it's a letter, I keep a scanned copy on my computer. I seldom have any hassle and, if I do, I have all the documents to prove my case. Easy to print out and post or email.
