Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

Whilst UK NHS & Healthcare staff are still unable to get enough of all the different types of mask they use/need every day & everywhere, and that still seems to be the case as I understand it, then my vote is “No”.

Should government advice change, then it becomes “Yes” (and most probably make your own face covering!)

Hello pete : Although I am not a really religious person (The chances of letting me in is doubtful )
I don't mind the idea of meeting the ' Almighty but preferably not to Soon .......
      !!!!!
I fear that this craziness is going to last until at least the Autumn or longer because nobody
really has the answer a 'vaccine' which although we are moving at a fast pace with cooperation
between companies it will not be a quick fix anytime soon , as for masks I am not sure if they
      would work for everyone.

Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

I am over 60 diabetic and my wife is very ill with different complaints shes had all the letter from doctors and hospital telling her no way to go out.
i have only been out once in the last month and that was to get me and the wifes tablets because Boots never deliver where i live just a small shop.
I don't think we should all go out in masks
1 Because there will never be enough as we have already seen with the NHS and carers.
2 i think the crime rate will shoot-up because it will be a thief's paradise and the police have got enough trouble controlling everything now with all the idiots about.
3 whos going to pay for all these masks? if we have to change them 3 or 4 times a day depending what you are doing.

I'm over 60 and have had heart problems and would be on the list of "at risk" people, but I think the health service believes I am already dead since I was sent home to die 4 years ago when the ran out of things to try.

I shall be using some of my wife's old bras. They'll last two days before needing washing!

Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

Have ordered a rather fetching universal snood/neck warmer type thing (from”online”) as worn by mountain bikers etc., ready to use as a face covering when it becomes recommended. Navy camouflage (as opposed to Army camo). Couldn’t get a Denmark flag design. Wanted to get the Welsh red dragon but decided against at the last minute! Don’t want to be mistaken for a medic...

Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

The microscopic holes in most face masks are bigger than a virus

we donít use masks to protect from the seasonal flu

They donít know 100% how the virus spreads so all these measures are just guess work

Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

It's interesting to see a polite divide in the opinion on this.

Personally I'm in favour of people wearing masks.

Whilst they won't stop you from breathing in the virus, they would help to reduce your breath from spreading COVID-19.

How does this help? Well for the first few days you don't know if you have the virus, but you can spread it. So if everyone was forced to wear the masks when out in public, the chances are that we would reduce its ability to spread. If this were maintained for a few weeks, with the added lockdown, then everyone would benefit IMHO.

As for the costs, they aren't that expensive. They were selling packs of 10 on Amazon for around £2.60. The price has jumped significantly in the past few weeks and now they are approaching £10 for the same pack of 10.

As tonight's programme on BBC1, this country is currently exporting PPE to the USA. There is spare capacity in the UK factories to make PPE for the NHS. We should not have to be paying such high prices for all the PPE, but that's getting into the politics of this whole mess.

I am sure that the face masks could be provided for less than 20p each. I am also sure that if people were respectful, we wouldn't need to all go out at once and wear 3 or 4 per day. By staying at home most of the time, and wearing a mask whilst we are out, we should be able to reduce the number of masks required.

Re: Face masks - to wear or not?

People should wear them but not for the reason 99% think

They do nothing to stop you getting it and only lower the chances of you infecting other people

Im a recluse and have almost zero interest in dealing with other people
I think I have left the house maybe 4 times in 6 months..

My nextdoor neighbour has been asking me to order her masks and such online the the last few weeks due to her not having an ebay account etc..
as she is very worried about getting it and is "at risk" according to her
and asked everyone in the street if they would order for her and they all said they dont have accounts etc..

Doesnt stop her going out every day
Doesnt stop her going in the neighbours houses every day
Doesnt stop her knocking my door every couple of days to order her something

if your here sarah stop annoying the hermit nextdoor he's sick of it
