Re: Whitchurch Silk Mill
As an add on, the River Test which powered the mill is reputed to be the best fly fishing river in England, some say Britain, but we have a few up here which can give it a run for its money.

Re: Whitchurch Silk Mill
Not being someone into fishing, I wouldn't know enough to argue with that one Tom.
Certainly on the day we visited there were more than 40 Brown Trout in the pool where the duck were congregating.
The Wikipedia entry makes reference to the fly fishing and provides more information such as its source from the chalk hills.
What struck us both was just how clean it looked. A sign that the river is very healthy. This was confirmed when we chatted with the lady in the shop who mentioned some of the wildlife that had been caught in the river recently by a party of children.
As for the fishing in Scotland, the one the pops to mind is Salmon. However there are also plenty of Trout too. Salmon and Trout are all very popular fish and all very nice when cooked correctly too.

Re: Whitchurch Silk Mill
Very nice indeed and beautifully shot and edited.
What camera equipment was that filmed with.
Do like your choice of music and the end credit flipped picture is a very nice touch.
Do you have some involvement with them, their website has a nice feel, but very old style coding.
Really need to make it more mobile friendly, it would break googles mobile friendly rules.
Not liking the render block scripting.

Re: Whitchurch Silk Mill
Thank you lettice.
We have no links with the Mill. We'd planned to go there sometime and Amazon Local came up with a nice little offer to coincide with the timing.
It is a charity, so perhaps the person who put the site together was a volunteer
Three cameras were used on the day:
- Samsung ES55
- Panasonic DMC-G5 (14-42mm lens)
- Panasonic HC-W850
We also each had a monopod, although Chris didn't do any video so didn't use the monopod on the day.
I've been playing around getting to know the VideoStudio software for a few months now. This is the result of all the work. The start graphics are based upon a template that is supplied with the software, whilst the end piece took inspiration from another template a little further by adding the 'twist'.
Which scripting didn't you like? Any particular reason? Any feedback is useful.
I intend to do some similar videos during the coming months. There won't be a lot, just a little bit of fun for me to do.

You need to buy a gopro, they make filming a joy.
Recently had a play with a Sony A7R II, amazing, but the price tag was not.
Well worth a visit to Trey Radcliffe's website, http://www.stuckincustoms.com
He does some great free photography tutorials.
His portfolio is well worth a visit.Last edited by lettice; 13-07-15 at 06:31 PM.

Re: Whitchurch Silk Mill
There are a variety of people who do on-line photography courses now.
I've been playing with my cameras and added the HC-W850 recently. The video of the hovercraft was the first real use of it. I had intended to video it from both sides, but they changed the Hovercraft over so I had to rethink how I was going to edit it all together.
On that occasion I used an external mic to minimise any wind noise. There wasn't any wind at Whitchurch, so I was able to use the built-in mics.
That Sony looks really nice, especially the 42MP sensor. I've been following the latest Micro Four Thirds cameras coming from Panasonic. The G4 looks really interesting for 4K video work, but is a little outside my current budget. The Panasonic G7 is a lot cheaper and also offers the opportunity to record 4K video. The lenses I already have would fit both of these nicely. Getting Sony would mean more money on a selection of lenses, as well as the initial high price for the camera body.
