      Grey Heron

Just a couple of pictures I took on Sunday in Brecon...

I got lucky. I spotted the Heron as I walked over the bridge but it flew off as I got down to the river's edge. It came back a little later and happily posed for a while, allowing me to run off some pictures.

      Which do you prefer?

Nice photos Scubbie. The second one shows the typical one legged heron pose so that would be my favourite. I may be lucky as I have a family of Herons living in the burn at the bottom of my garden, I see these birds quite often.

      Thank you Tom.

Brecon isn't somewhere that I have been to much in the past. Apparently they Herons are seen in the area from time to time, however they aren't seen much where I live.

Lucky ! I have the blighters in my garden regularly after my goldfish. Not only that but frequent visits from a sparrowhawk after the birds at the feeders. I don't count myself lucky when either of them pay a visit.

      Awww... Poor Golden Carp.

Now there are a couple of ways to discourage the Herons. First you could stick a fake one by your pond. The other would be to take up Falconry.

The second might also discourage the Sparrowhawk.

Before you do an of that, have you got any pictures?

This one was taken a little while ago admiring my neighbour's fish pond:

(Sorry about the configuration - it's not really defying gravity!)

      Nice, thank you.

A little shakey, but it looks like it was taken at a difficult angle.
