Where would you like the English Parliament to be based?

Following on from the Scottish Referendum the Tories have now declared that they want to have a just the English MPs voting when it is for matters affecting just England and not Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales.

Should we have a totally separate parliament where do you think it should be held?

      • London - Central to all the current major UK pen-pushers and 'decision makers'
      • Birmingham - England's 2nd biggest City. It is also pretty central.
      • Manchester - One of the major Cities in the UK which has a major input today, before the BBC moved up there
      • Tamworth, in Staffordshire, was the capital of Mercia. Should this be the new capital of England?
      • Winchester is the legendary base for King Arthur's Round Table

Of course many of you will have your favourite choice. Let us know what it is...

As all the other national assemblies are in their respective capital cities the same should be true of the English Assembly though whether it should be in the Palace of Westminster is debatable.

A parliament of Great Britain and Northern Ireland should have representatives from all member countries but only deal with international policy and other business outside the remit of national assemblies. Whether this should remain in London is another question. My personal opinion is that it should be located at or close to the border of two member countries.

I would favour Berwick Upon Tweed as it has good transport links and has, during its history, been part of both England and Scotland.

Please, let's not have a copy of the Brussels / Strasbourg debacle of the European parliament. The Governments of England and the UK should both be in the same place, whether it be London or elsewhere. For practical reasons, London should be favourite because most of Government is there and it would be cruel to have to relocate the duck houses of MPs.

      Colchester obviously.
      Britains oldest recorded town.
(They apply for city status every year so will get it one day).

Not living in England, I don't have a vote so I have voted Other so I don't have to keep click view result to see how things are going.

I will throw York into the mix just to keep the kettle boiling.

Anyone can 'vote' in this poll.

I don't think that an Engliah Parliament should be based in London. IMHO this is purely because there is too much centralisation if Government there already.

I think so too, by the way is anyone who can't spell English barred from the poll?

Another question I have not seen raised so far is, do England's residents want another parliament? I think it is only fair to ask, just as there was in Scotland when the Scottish assembly was mooted.
