I did vote 'Couldn't care less' in this poll but forgot all about the socialist vote up there.

Well the No vote means there are still 58 anti=Tory in Westminster. DC nearly blew it with his pontificating as he is despised in Scotland, I am sure many voted Yes just to spite him. Fortunately GB gave a couple of impassioned 'better together' speeches which brought many to the No fold. Although he may not be liked in England Gordon is still a well respected figure in Scotland. Anyway that's it over, I will not see another breakaway attempt in my lifetime.

Re: Say Yes/No to breaking up the UK

It would be interesting to see a "vote by age" breakdown of the poll results. I don't know if the conduct of the referendum would allow figures to be obtained but a survey commissioned by Lord Ashcroft where over 70% of 16 and 17 year olds surveyed voted for Scottish independence, broadly shows that the desire to maintain the status quo increased with voter age.

If this trend were to continue a future referendum on this subject could have a totally different outcome.

Re: Say Yes/No to breaking up the UK

I doubt if it will ever happen again. By the time it comes up in the future, the oil revenue will be well depleted and that was one of the main reasons so many voted Yes. Without the revenue from oil, Scotland would not be a very wealthy nation. Our mines and heavy industries like ship building have been destroyed, leaving only whisky and tourism as an earners, not a very good prospect.

Alex has acted like a gentleman and resigned over the result of the poll. The SNP must be wondering if it is worth continuing as a party.

Re: Say Yes/No to breaking up the UK

Now that the prospect of Scottish independence has receded would the population of Scotland be happier if England had its own assembly so that all the countries of UK and NI had equal political status?
