The SIII is being used on both the US and UK 4G systems.

The resolution on the SIII screen is 1280*720, compared to 1136*640.

Rear cameras have the same resolution, but the SIII camera is better and yes I do occasionally use the front camera on my SII.

Whilst the internal memory is limited to either 16Gb or 32GB, with the iPhone 5 support 16, 32 and 64GB, you can also fit a 64GB memory card, providing potentially 32GB more memory, which can also be swapped if the need arises.

Battery life is always an important factor. Batteries also wear out after a long period of use. You can easily swap the battery in the SIII should you go away for a long weekend with no facility to charge the phone.

Finally: Price. The 32GB SIII is around £30 cheaper than the equivalent iPhone 5 model.

Does the S III definitely support the LTE bands being used in the UK? Looking at Wikipedia, it says the international version has no LTE support and only the US/Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea versions support it. Is there a new version coming with UK LTE support?

Resolution... Yep, higher. But so is the screen size. The iPhone 5's resolution may be a little lower, but it actually has a higher pixel density. Still, I did say "other than the screen" I've seen the S III, and the screen is lovely, and the huge size isn't as off-putting as I thought it would be.

How do you know that the rear camera on the S III is better?

Front camera... Sure, the S III has a higher MP for pictures, but they both record 720p video. I can't see any use for a front camera other than video calling, so if they both do 720p does one having a higher MP matter?

Battery life... I've never had a battery die out, never needed to swap one. I admit having a spare would be handy though.

      Storage... Fair enough!

EE have indeed said the a version of the Galaxy S3 LTE handset (along with a few others) is coming to the UK.

see UK's 4G Mobile Network | Fibre Broadband | EE (scroll down to the 'latest kit' section)

Actually I cannot substantiate that. Looking back, all the tests with the SIII using 3G vs 4G appear to be based in the states. I did see a UK report in the last week or so showing the 4G speed test, but again I can't be 100% sure if this was don e in the UK or not. It was however done as a part of the EE 4G launch, so I assumed that it would be.

Sorry I meant that it would be better because of the front facing camera.

In fairness the way that I personally use my SII you probably wouldn't appreciate it though. When I use the front facing camera it is mostly for Skype, so it would be the same on both.

It really depends on what you do with the phone. The example I gave would be a valid one for anyone who might go away for weekends camping or hiking. Many like to rely on their phones and the batteries are normally dead by the end of the weekend.

I recently bought a larger battery for my SII as it was struggling if I went out all day. The new battery lasts very well but does benefit from being run down fully, something I can see in one of the apps on the phone.

As for the screen resolution, something more for those who struggle with seeing things I guess. The smaller pixels sound great, but does that mean that some people will struggle to see the smaller text or icons?

If you think the iPhone 5 is good, just wait until the iPhone 10 is out.

      Re: New iPhone 5

Just as you thought this thread had died a death...

It was pointed out to me that lots of performance stats are starting to come out as testers get hold of the iPhone 5 and there have been some interesting results. For example, as some people have been very keen to demonstrate in this thread, the SIII has (on paper), a number of superior components such as a quad core processor compared to the iPhone 5's dual core, so obviously the Samsung is better right?

Wrong. The fastest smart phone on the block is...

      New iPhone 5-android-benchmarks-1-.jpg

      Want some more?

How about the SunSpider Javascript benchmarks which show Apple’s latest iPhone 5 beats everything when it comes to Javascript performance:

      New iPhone 5-sunspider-e1348052325666.jpg

All of which proves the point that I made earlier in this thread that as far as I'm concerned, you can have the "best" components in the world, but it's how you use them that counts.

If you want me, I'll be in the corner looking smug...
