How can anybody be sure that the Torch on is eBay isn't a fake? Allot of people have been selling fakes on eBay for along time, just because it has a serial number doesn't mean it's the real deal. As serial numbers are often easily faked.

I bought the Olympic torch off eBay and It's definitely real. I got a good deal because the seller also threw in the Turin shroud and the dead sea scrolls which was nice

I would expect someone to want to start manufacturing fakes at some stage soon.

The young woman who sold her torch for 153k was on BBC Breakfast this morning. She'll be running with it later today in the North Devon area. She wanted to raise money for the local charity she set up and only expected to raise around 3k.

She has received a lot of hateful messages through eBay regarding her auction and needs to sift through those in order to find the genuine bids now.

Why bother making a fake torch when you can sell a photo of a torch on Ebay and rely on bidders not carefully reading the description :-

I'm slightly surprised no-one has tried selling their place in the run.

That one's been withdrawn, but here is another, I think a 1400 bid would clinch it.

I think it reached over 100,000 before being pulled.

There's yet another that doesn't mention it's a photo in the listing title here:- 2012 olympic torch | eBay
