      3. Someone who is the to work for the people that they are representing and not wishing to make a name for themselves so that they can profit from being an ex-MP in the future
      4. Someone who will full fill all his or her election promises
      5. Someone who has not attempted to fiddle their tax returns, expenses claims or would do so once in office
      6. Someone who has not committed a criminal offence and been caught (note: this means that even if given a warning, they couldn't be included)
      7. Someone who will not follow party lines when their local constituents disagree with the policy
      8. Someone who wishes to serve the people and not accept any form of backhander to help businesses make even more money at the expense of the people

Failing all this, then Tom's suggestion of us all voting for the Monster Raving Loony party should be carried.

I am sorry, but I have dealt with some Politicians in the past and I can only say that there was not one of them whom I would consider would get past the first part of the criteria in my list.

      Credit where it is due

      No credit here:
Britain's Conservative-led coalition government has also been criticised for not doing more to curb Hester's pay, facing attacks from not only the opposition Labor party but also from its own members

Politics is a subject that should never be discussed on a forum.

It always causes arguements or differing viewpoints.

Ministers insist they cannot prevent the payout as it was enshrined in the contract agreed by the Labour government after Mr Hester took over RBS in 2008.
      /nuff said.

      What's frustrating?

It is in his contract, which was agreed and signed before the current government came into power.

I hate politics as it causes so many arguements, there is nothing the currrent guys n gals can do. We just have to hope he sees sense and refuses to accept it.

      That makes no sense whatsoever.

      You said....

absolute disgrace and I am angry at the government for not stopping it.
The current government cannot stop it....

Ministers insist they cannot prevent the payout as it was enshrined in the contract agreed by the Labour government after Mr Hester took over RBS in 2008.
So it's not as if the current goverment cannot be arsed, they are powerless to do so.

They could table a law / motion etc to block it, (which if I was honest would think thats what they want to do) but then he could walk out along with the rest of them. We (the taxpayers) have put in 81 billion or so, and so would be up **** creek without a paddle if they did so.

I really do not understand or care about Politics, you can upset too many people / lose too many freinds over it. Let's face it, in all honesty, no one knows what to believe or if it is true what one Party says about the other.

Not one single party could make everyone happy, if it could this world would be boring.

The bottom line is, the guy at the RBS is .

You would be too young to remember this.

Public sector workers had contracts but it did not stop the government freezing pay rises and reducing pensions.

So why don't they change his?

The government (we) own and are the major share holder so don't we have the power?

The public sector as with the private sector had their pensions changed because the terms of their contract allowed it. Simples!
