      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

I do find all of this a bit bemusing. If anyone want to hack a phone they will do so regardless as to whether or not one of their companies provides the phone service to the person they want to hack.

I don't condone the NOTW hacking 'innocent' people, but I dont understand why we are shocked? Are we really that naieve to think that it's only the NOTW or Murdoch companies that have/do this. Are we that naieve that it's something that has only started in the last decade or two?

Every journalist is up to it in one form or another...... just probably more indirectly through third parties. It's also been going on since journalism first start 100's of years ago. All that has changed is the technology.

We all know what the tabloids are like and up to. It's just amazes what an uproar there is...... if 'we' had any morals we would have stopped buying the tabloids years ago, yet we still do. Whilst there is a demand from 'us' then the supply will continue to happen.

The only way to stop this type of behaviour is for 'us' to stop supporting it by ceasing to buy ANY tabloid papers.

As a country we are nothing short of two-faced.

      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

The whole point over the problems with NotW is that intercepting telephone calls or text messages or emails is a criminal offence, unless a warrant has been issued by the courts.

Should Rupert Murdoch succeed in purchasing all of BSkyB, then I suspect that he would not chance his luck with authorising any form of intercepting communications.

With all the current levels of public disapproval, anyone attempting to do so would have to be even more careful than previously.

The mobile companies have changed the way that they allow people to access their ansa phones.

I used to have an email account with Vodafone. This allowed me to download my messages as an attachment to an email. This was sadly closed by Vodafone.

I doubt that many people knew the service existed and I suspect that this would have been one way that messages could have been intercepted.

It has long been known that Bluetooth isn't that secure either. Most new phones have improved upon this and now it is harder to use Bluetooth to gain access to a telephone.

Again this could have been used to gain access to the text messages on a mobile phone, without the owner being aware.

That's Murdoch goosed if it is.

Much as I hate the yanks, what happened on 9/11 was horrendous, and if Murdoch's crew were responsible for phone hacking victims / families etc then his organisation deserves everything that is about to happen to it.

What makes me laugh is the fallout of the last week, and everyone lobbying advertisers to boycott NOTW etc on Twitter and Facebook, the demise of NOTW and then the figures reported that today's NOTW was 30% up on last week for sales. It just shows the current state of the UK

I PMSL'ing at the huge pile of NOTW papers left in my local Co-OP tonight, and then thought to myself at least some people in the UK have some morals left.

      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

A lot of the public do not realise what they are doing when it comes to purchasing the newspapers.

I recall sitting on a tube on my way to work, when this lovely old lady sitting next to me mentioned that she was buying all the papers so that she could collect the last pictures of Diana to put in her scrapbook to give to her grandchildren.

For the record this really upset me as at the time it was believed that Diana had effectively be killed because of the paparazzi chasing her through the roads of Paris and that they hadn't offered to help her, but wanted to take more photos instead.

As for this new story of hacking into the phones of the victims of 9/11, this is sick and to be expected in light of the other 'alleged' hacking victims. Whilst it happened in the US, it should also be remembered that there were many UK people who were killed too in the twin towers.
