      Android or IPhone?

As the title states what would you go for and why?

I'm due an upgrade soon and i will be going for an Android phone for the following reasons..

More choice of make and model of phones.
      Android is upgradeable.
Apps are growing and wont be long before they match the IPhone in numbers.
Android allows third party modification of its operating system.
      and Flash works with Android.

What a great thread! I am waiting with baited breath for all the response's because I am in the same boat. I am way overdue an upgrade, I have a 3 year old XDA running windows mobile. I am very tempted with the iphone, but keep looking at the HTC phones. They have both windows mobile and andriod available! Errrgh decisions decisions. Gonna be stuck with it for 2 years so dont wanna make the wrong decision.

I'm exactly the same. Want an iPhone, but tarrifs are way too high... looking at the HTC desire.

      Re: Android or IPhone?

I have now had the i-phone for around 6 months and I am very impressed with it. It does just about everything I need. The only thing that bugs me a little is that you are tied in with Apple with no real way to change that.

      I wouldn't swap it though :-)

      Re: Android or IPhone?

Wife went for a blackberry as she had wanted one for ages and O2 now do them on domestic tarriffs.

As for your choice I would go for Android, I have friends who have iPhones and they complain about them all the time, they have terrible signal strength, build quality is like chewing gum etc. and as you said the tariffs aren't particulary cheap, although now vodaphone do them as well as O2 I wonder if we'll see a drop in price.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

      Re: Android or IPhone?

I did have a choice of 2 for the Android either the HTC Desire or the Sony Ericsson X10 but i have read that the X10 has some pretty big problems and an old version of Android,
I am now leaning toward the Desire as the only down side on that seems to be the AMOLED screen which is not as sharp or crisp as the X10's LCD screen, the IPhone 4G is also rumoured to have an AMOLED screen as well

I've got an HTC Touch Pro 2 and although a little on the thick side due to the slide out keyboard I'm growing quite attached to it.

      Re: Android or IPhone?

Ok, as a heavy phone user, and really into my tech...

Have had Nokias in the past, but moved away when they released the N96 (poor) and N97 (rubbish) Have had a Samsung Omnia i8910hd for the last nine months, ans it's been a great phone, but poor internet browser... Was hanging on for the Nokia N900, but after using one, the screen is rubbish...

Iphone is to me, a toy - Only multitasking it can do, is music and one app - Thats it - Battery life, esp on the 3GS is very poor, and having to use ITunes for everything is a pain!

So, what did I go for, come upgrade time, approx 3 weeks ago??

A HTC Desire... AND I LOVE IT!!!!

Fast, stable and multitasks like a dream... Camera and screen knock the Iphone for six, and the range of appz - most free - is growing daily....

HIGHLY recommended, and Google maps, with FREE navigation and turn by turn directions, is superb, esp if you enable the satellite view! Makes navigation a breeze, as you can actually see buildings and landmarks around you as you drive!

      Re: Android or IPhone?

      Hello

I've been a Nokia phone user for the last 15 years! All of my phones, and I've had a few in that time have all been Nokia! Recently I've been tempted by the iPhone, but have been put off by the restrictions placed on it by Apple. So 2 weeks ago, after reading an article in T3 magazine I swapped my Nokia X6 for the HTC Desire and I absolutely love it!!! I would definitely not go back to a Nokia! Even my partner who has had 2 iPhones - currently the 3G one, is being tempted by it!! If you've got the chance to own one, seriously consider it!
