      Re: Swine Flu

The cleaner at my wif'e's work has been confirmed with it.

What doesn't help is that there is an awfuly nasty stomach virus going around with similar symptoms since Easter.

I had to be rushed to A&E last week with a seizure (I have epilepsy and it's my first fit in 6 years) and they refused to let me go until I had tested negative for swine flu.

I could hear them asking everybody else did they have the swine flu symptoms without actually mentioning it.

To be honest NR as long as your wife hasn't got any serious medical conditions like an auto immune disease or bronchitus, with plenty of bedrest, fluids and TLC she should be OK and I'd rather catch it now and get some antibodies for it before it comes back in a 2nd wave this Autumn.

People in 1918 who caught the Spainish flu in the 1st wave were just zonked out, it's when it came back that Autumn that was the killer.

Also Swine Flu although being a very infectious disease really has one of the lowest death rates out there, even lower than the "normal" regular flu season.

Hope that makes you and your wife feel better.

Seems to be spreading. My mate's just getting over it and people at work have been off with it.

      Office is constantly being disinfected.

I can only see it getting worse.

      @ Undecided Adrian

      Thanks.

tbh I don't think our health authority is very clued up on this at all. Or it would appear that their planning has not been complete or well thought out.

Told to go to one place, and visit the pharmacy, get there, then told, you are in the wrong building, down the road turn left, and ring the bell. Fine, until you do that and then there is no answer.

Fancy not walking a little further down the road, past the Spanish restaurant and then knocking on that door, which looking through the windows looks like someone's front room, having already waited in the rain for 15 minutes for someone not to answer the door of where we were told to go.

The least they could do is put a notice or a sign of some description, saying vaccines / etc here. Since when do medical centres look like someone's house in the middle of an office block?

According to the pharmacist, 100's of people were going to them, why not just give them the tablets then?

I might end up eating my words but apparently normal flu wipes out 7000 people every winter, we have 29 deaths so far from swine flu, Mmmmm.

      Re: Swine Flu

My daughter's ex boyfriend has it and more than 10 people at work had it last time I was there. Been on leave for almost 3 weeks.

I work at a university, and I fully expect to get it in the autumn when the new term begins.

I am not bothered as I don't have any underlying problems, although I will be on the danger list as I am type 2 diabetic, but have never had any problems with it. It is well controlled.

It will be nice to have a week off even with the symptoms.
