Then I buy it on-line, cheaper.

If you shop on-line (or by telephone) ALWAYS pay
with a credit card and then pay off
your bill immediately. Do not use a debit card.

By using a Credit Card you are protected by the Financial Services Act
      and Distance Selling regulations.

You are protected however you pay! DSR and SoG Act protect you regardless of how you pay. Quite what the FS Act has to do with retail sales beats me. They regulate the Financial Services Industry!

Credit card companies will only intervene if the purchase is greater than £100!

Under Distance selling regulations, you have seven working days to cancel after receiving the goods or if it's a service you have seven working days to cancel the contract, which actually means you have more rights when you buy stuff on the web (or mail order) than you do for buying in a shop. - moneysavingexpert.com

Credit Cards are better than debit cards. This may surprise you, but you have more rights if you spend on a credit card than you do on a debit card, cash or cheques. - moneysavingexpert.com

Not much surprising me these days, but I wish you'd surprise me by showing just how a credit card offers more protection than a debit card for purchases under £100!

      What you said here -
By using a Credit Card you are protected by the Financial Services Act
      and Distance Selling regulations.
      - implies that you are not protected any other way. That is not true!

My main point of paying by credit card when shopping
on the web is sound, as can be seen by the quotes from
      moneysavingexpert.com - post #13

I have no intention of defending things I did not say.
When shopping on the web however, I advise caution on
      advice such as:
“You are protected however you pay!”

There you go, taking things out of context, just to try and save face!
You know damn well that I was referring to the DSR and SoG Act yet you now try to imply that what I say is incautious!
All I have done is to correct your impetuous statements!

A pity you have tried to close down the arguments on this thread.

Your story was instructive on the way to shop.
The way you pay for goods when shopping on the Internet is
      worthy of arguments.
We have seen before on these boards, people posting stories of
how they were unable to get contracts cancelled or refunds because
they paid with the wrong card or did not realise they had to cancel
      within 7 days.
Broadband contracts, Computers, Repair Contracts, Sky TV
and XL Airways spring to mind.
