The Corkscrew is to go from Alton Towers

An iconic rollercoaster at Alton Towers is to be taken down to make way for something bigger and better, bosses at the Staffordshire theme park have said.

The 28-year-old Corkscrew, which cost 1.25m, was Europe's first double-looped rollercoaster.

I remember going there when it first opened.

I remember when the first full looper was opened in Blackpool. Queued for an hour with my son who was in his early teens. We even got certificates to prove we had done it. Must have been over 30 years ago, past it now I'm afraid

I have not been there since Nemesis opened up.

Kids stopped me, maybe they are old enough now though.

I remember being there when they were digging the rock out, so Nemesis could be built.

I think we are showing our age here

I always thought "The Black Hole" was the best the first time I went there, I shat myself the first time I went over that drop in the pitch black! "The Corkscrew" was my second favorite! Christ that must have been 20 years ago! eeeekkkkk!
